Maybe I am just an optimist but..

I have been thinking about how the fallout of our economy will effect IM. And I believe that it might actually not hurt so much. Think about it.. people are going to be so desperate to learn new things, make more money and increase there self worth that they are going to be looking even more on the web to do so. Just a positive way to look at a bad situation. Let me know what you think.

    I totally agree...

I wrote about this in another "about the economy" post and it's in times like these that new businesses are formed and old habits die hard. People don't shift their mindset except during crises. That's usually how the way it is. Major life events force us to adapt.

Call it economic evolution, creative destruction, or whatever, but the world and the economy are changing. FOREVER.

No longer will 9-5 be as huge. No longer will overtime, unions, manufacturing, etc be the main stay. It's already happening and this will only speed it up. The internet makes the world the marketplace. That's good for companies b/c of extra potential sales...but there's also a world marketplace for competitors. Companies fail, people move on, and many will tire of being slaves.

This is the way of the future. People will work for themselves b/c THEY are the boss...even if they just own their job. No more layoffs, no more buyouts...we're back to the sink or swim mentality that our species has had to have since it's beginning.

Anyhow, I'm done with my rant...just be prepared for an entrepreneurial world...b/c it's here whether you like it or not.

    Best wishes,

    Brad Spencer

Good call. I actually started my own business at a low point in my (economic) life. I was living in the back of a ballroom dance studio, and only making $200/week. I spent all my free time learning about the internet, and within a couple of years reached a point where I would probably never again need to work for someone.

There will be a lot of new people who have lost their job and are trying to make a little online. We should be ready to welcome them and help match people together that can help each other.
It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

It's amazing how fast people can learn if they are desperate...
As more people join the industry, there will be more people to sell to and there is space for everyone.
    Definately a positive thing

No better time to learn than right now. It is usually easier to start as a side business when you have a full time job. But the longer you wait the harder it becomes to get in.
