Read this: Then you might "Get it"

If you're having success in your online ventures, you can probably completely ignore this post.

I don't claim to be, nor will I ever be a top-flight marketer, in fact, all I am is a guy who has some common sense and an eye for opportunities - and I know how to plan.

I'm seeing a LOT of posts asking about whether certain methods work, how to drive traffic, etc - from people who seem to be lost when it comes the the fundamentals (they don't even have a product/site/offer etc)

You can have all the traffic in the world, but if you don't have something they want - then you're barking up the wrong tree, and p*ssing into the wind at the same time (not pretty)

An (arguably) great man once said...
"If you build it, they will come"

I take that to mean...

'If you build something that people want, people will beat down your door to get hold of it."

If you're in the "provide people with something they want... in exchange for money" business - then the first thing you should be focusing on is...

WHAT DO PEOPLE WANT?

Once you've worked that out for yourself, in the context of your own business...

HOW DO I CREATE WHAT THEY WANT?

Then, and only then...

HOW DO I LET PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT IT?

Do a bit of testing, drive SOME traffic to it - whether it's by PPC, article marketing or whatever.

At this point, if your offer is GREAT, you'll convert traffic into buyers. This is what you want. Because when you have real buyers, you get real feedback that you can show to potential affiliates/partners/JVs.

Now would be a good time to tell some influential people in your niche about the product, how well it converts, the feedback you've got - and ask them to review your product.

I guarantee, that if you do it THIS way, instead of asking them to review it BEFORE you have social proof (and feedback to make it better) - they will be more likely to endorse it, and/or look at your products/services more closely in future.

The potential is huge. You won't NEED to worry about social bookmarking your own sites, people will do that for you - people will blog about it, bookmark it, affiliates will want to promote it.

====

I'm not trying to teach Grandma to suck eggs, but, if you're lost and want an easy to follow guideline - there it is.

Hope this helps someone realise that it's not really that difficult to succeed, as long as you follow a plan.

Great post. It's such a simple concept yet it eludes us for so long in the beginning. Essentially, this is how the big players are making their money:

    Product Creation.

I think what many don't realize is you don't have to create the greatest, most comprehensive product to actually turn over a nice profit and develop a loyal customer base. You can create many 'micro products' like short reports.

If or when you have the resources, then you can venture into creating larger products like software solutions, comprehensive services, courses etc.

I can vouch for product creation, all the way.

Tried all other ways that I could think of and making prodiucts has been a sure fire winner since day one and working with customers is another huge reward that comes from product creation, there's always one or two who need a helping hand.

I'm actually in the service industry myself, but the same principles apply...

    Find out what people want.
Work out how to give it to them.
Let them know how they can get it.
    Scale up.

Karl you've given actionable steps, I commend you for that..

Just want to add some specifics..

    WHAT DO PEOPLE WANT?

Read all of the highly replied post here and in the WSO to find out
what people want..Just compile a list and classify them into different
categories like Internet marketing Tools, make money systems, list building,
traffic, graphics, articles, product creation, site development, etc.

HOW DO I CREATE WHAT THEY WANT?

Check if you are capable on any of the "WHAT DO PEOPLE WANT?" category
you've just listed. Then create a product that caters to that need.

HOW DO I LET PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT IT?

If you're looking too far to let people know about your product then
think, everything is right in front of you... What's So Obvious is easily missed.

    All the best,

Thanks, and thanks for additional steps.

One thing I didn't want to do with the OP was to make it too complicated... (having additional info in replies is much better in my opinion, because that ensures that the main message isn't lost)

The 3 simple steps can't fail. It's what happens when people get them the wrong way round, get hung up on just one of the steps, or fail to follow them through which causes failure.

My attitude to life is this: You don't fail until you stop trying.

And if you keep trying the same thing, in a slightly different way - learning as you go, then the world is yours for the taking.

So true. Social bookmarking is a waste of time if it only goes out one iteration (nobody else bookmarks it after you do). Give the people what they want, and they will give you what you want.

Funny you should write this. I did a video about this very subject the other day.

I don't get it. I was told this making money online thing was easy.

    This sounds like work.
