Kimspirations Internet Marketing Advice by Kim Standerline

Also I want to put some recommendations in there, would you do another page called recomended products, or add them down the side.

BTW thanks to Tony Newton who tarted the theme up for me. (A very nice guy)

Kim

p.s please don't sign up anyone, I haven't posted this for that purpose. I would take the sign up link out but Tony put it in the side for me and I don't want to spoil it. (Hopeless with CSS etc)

    Quick Question,

Is it going to be a squeeze page or a blog, if it is a squeeze page then i would get rid of the catagories and archives side bar widget

go into wordpress admin, got appearance, then goto widgets and drag the off the side bar, hit save done

Other than that it looks nice clean and easy to read,

It's far from crap It's easy on the eye, and I really like your writing style - friendly, humorous and direct. You could maybe have the opt in box higher up, possibly above the fold and move the RSS feed button down, but I think it works the way it is

Sorry, do you want some criticism?

No, it's not crap. But it's not great either. Design is a little too simple at the moment. I don't like the shade of blue. The effects on the right side don't look right with the transparent effect. The footer links color is gross.

Sorry, hope that helps, as direct as it is.

I think maybe the header and the body should be connected, have a new nav created, change the background color or add some texture to it. Change the side effects and that transparent border. Change the footer colors.

Thanks Damien, I'm always up for constructive criticism hun so thanks a lot for yours.

My daughter always says I have no taste lol but I actually like the design and I wanted to go for something really simple. Obviously it isn't by any means finished yet.

I was thinking more in terms of the wording more than anything. Should I be using more of a sales page type of approach

Hi Kim, I am sorry, I didn't mean to take the opportunity to spew forth all that is wrong with the world lol

The idea is to keep it simple, and it does that quite effectively.

Now, the writing...can't comment too much on that as I'm not exactly the greatest writer in the world It's light hearted and humorous; gives it a nice personal touch. I like it.

Wish you the best with this.

Sure, keep me in mind. Be glad to help where I can.

        Damien.

It's a nice, simple, clean design but needs a few things changed just to lift it up a bit.

        1. It desperately needs borders around the various areas. Just a 1 pix border around the main content area and then the same around the various sidebar widgets, especially the optin form.

        2. Change the blue backround to something else, maybe a gradient dark gray at the top going down to white at the bottom or the other way around.

        3. The dark blue header boxes above the sidebar widgets look a bit strange. Maybe with borders around the widgets it will look better. At the moment, I am not sure if it is part of the design or a firefox error but the blue bar spills over the edge of the main page border. It just looks odd.

Apart from that, really love the main header graphic and text. Maybe the light blue thick border could be changed to a darker colour (black even) and a lot thinner.. Just my 2 pennies worth...

this was a completey custom theme took days to make, but i have gotten a far better response from simple themes that are easy on the eye, clean and un cluttred.

It's very clean and neat. I actually like the blue.
The "uncluttered" theme is a breath of fresh air.

    Hi Kim,

It's okay. Not great, but not a pile of rubbish, either.

I can see where there would be some confusion amongst those just glancing at the page. Is it a blog, as the RSS button suggests; is it a newsletter, as the text suggests; or is it an e-book, as the cover graphic suggests?

Other than that, I would say there's a 50/50 chance I would read the text. But if I did, there's a 90% chance I would sign up.

    Hope that helps.

    All the best,
    Michael

    Kim,

In light of the reason you started back with the new newsletter (simplifying things), I think the new blog looks great. Simple, clean and straight to the point.

With products, I think have a second page, recommended products or recommended resources, and do some small banners for other things down the side.

Quick question. Where did you get the caricature for the logo? I simply love it and would like to get something similar done for mine.

    Thanks,

    John

Not crap at all. I like the colour, writing style etc.

the RSS button seems to be sitting out there on it's own tho

    You've got almost duplicate titles...

    So what is Kimspirations?

So what is Kimspirations all about??

... you may wanna change one of those around a little.

I got a question for ya... why is it on a .info?

      Kim,

If there's one thing you've learned from asking the question it's you can't be all things to all people.

I agree with the POV advocating a bit of border to separate the page elements.

As to color, appreciation thereof is very subjective. Blue, of whatever hue, is unlikely to offend anyone.

Having known you for a few years, I know you, "call 'em as you see 'em". I wonder though if your approach may be a bit too broad?

This looks like a very good start to me, but in my opinion it needs to have more content. That would be my only advice and I would save the recommended products for sprinkling in to your messages to your list over time. That is just my 2 cents.

Kim, I like what I see. Simple, clean, easy to read and still has personality.

I think some of the confusion will go away as you add content, so people don't see empty spaces in the sidebar.

I do agree with moving the RSS button from the top of the column. Maybe put it above the Archives list with a call to add the feed to the visitor's reader.

As far as putting resources in the sidebar, I've seen sites with long lists, and I find them a little overwhelming. Maybe a "Featured Resources" with rotating content on the home page and the resources featured in the newsletter issue for the individual posts? I'm not sure how much hassle this would be, but might be doable with special fields for the resources and links...

Im no expert so heres my impressions:

    Kimspirations Internet Marketing Newsletter...

My name is Kim Standerline and I've been an Internet Marketer since 2002. In that time I've picked up a number of tricks etc and I can safely say I can navigate my way around the Internet.
I would never have guessed your name was Kim reading the banner of your page. This quote sounds like a member introduction in an AA meeting.

    So what is Kimspirations?
Kimspirations is my labour of love that I'll be sending out to you on a weekly basis (Every Sunday in fact).
I don't do pitchfests. I don't like them, so why would I subject you to one? Instead I'll be rambling about what I've been doing during the week, giving my opinions on the latest software and what's been happening in IM land etc and yes I'll even recommend products to you occasionally using (gasp) an affiliate link if I think it's worthy to buy
your squeeze page reads like a pitch fest. What do I care about what YOU have been doing during the week? Why should I care about what you think about whatever products you review.

"if its worthy to buy," I thought you said you weren't going to pitch anything to me.

So what is Kimspirations all about??
For a start, I'm hoping that I'll also inspire YOU...
By reading my weekly observations on life and Internet Marketing in general, I'm hoping to help you enable yourself to become more confident both in yourself and your business. I also want to make you smile occasionally upon the journey.
More pitching and not only do you want to make me smile but pitch me stuff through your emails as well.

We'll be covering all sorts of diverse subjects such as
    • Internet Marketing (of course)
    • Personal Development
    • Time Management
    • And lots of other stuff
Too much information and why should I care about any of this stuff?

To be honest we'll be covering a whole host of issues. (I have an opinion on just about everything)!
Again why should I care what you have to say.

So if you want an excuse to make a coffee, put your feet up and have a smile every Sunday just sign up on your right, I'm looking forward to meeting you.
You are not being assertive enough and giving me directions, you lost a signup.

As for the layout nice clean and simple
