A great find for Wordpress membership site owners....
Running my WP-based membership site is, for the most part, glitch free. But there was one thing that caused me constant headaches; wordpress's arcane password recovery system.
When a member forgets his or her password, here's what happens:
1. They click "lost my password" and enter their username or e-mail address
2. They receive a password re-set e-mail with a link.
3. They click on the link and are brought to a page that tells them to check their e-mail
4. They get an e-mail witha new password.
That's fine, except the new password generated is something like $*re@(bR1 So, either that trips them up (I have some technophobic members) or they then have to figure out how to change that password to something halfway legible. the result: I end up with 5 or 6 e-mails a day saying "Help - I can't figure out this password thing!"
I was ready to pay someone to code a solution for me when I found a solution: A WP plugin called Improved User Experience.
With this plug installed, here's what happens:
1. They click "lost my password" and enter their username or e-mail address
2. They receive a password re-set e-mail with a link.
3. They're brought right to their user profile page, where they can enter the password of their choice.
Awesome.
