bum marketing question

Hey everyone,

I am getting ready to go full into bum marketing and have been deciding on a strategy to go at it. I have no income and nothing to invest into this right now and using free resources are my only current option.

I have been stuck between to things for sending traffic to the sales pages:

1. Write articles that send traffic to a web 2.0 site that sends visitors to the sales page (and backlink both) or

2. Just write articles on directories that allow direct linking and backlink the article

Im developing a plan so I can begin full force on monday. Ive been writing down ideas but this has been bugging me all week. Any advice on this would be great

Thanks everyone!

~DC

Write articles to send traffic to sales pages. Try some PPC with the sales page too.

Agreed. However, watch your money with PPC, I know from experience it's very easy to blow through a lot of cash quickly.

Yeah and the fact that I have no money to put into this so PPC isnt a current option :p

      Just a few things too:

The plan right now is to promote clickbank products. This is just the plan for right now. So by sales page I mean the clickbank products page.

Honestly, you can try both and check out which works
best. This is what they call split testing..

If you are pushing clickbank products, create two links
for a single product (add different Tracking ID's)

Then create one article that goes straight to the sales
page and another variation that sends to web 2.0 site
    then to sales page.

Give it some time and then check the results by looking
at the no. of hops per link.

This way you'll know for sure which works best for your
    niche..

This is what I'll do if I were in your shoes..Though it's
double the effort, but it will go a long way in terms of
knowing what to do in the future..

    All the best,

Yes, you can blow a lot of money with PPC, but this does not mean you can't limit your budget. Try both, see what works for you, altough if you want to market a product it's easy to make some real money with PPC.

If you have no money you can also try twitter marketing [ the spammy way, just kidding ] or some article marketing.

Do people really get traffic from twitter? Doesn't seem like it would be too effective.

It was somewhat successful, generating about $ 200 per week as just a little fun experiment.

What I used was: writing articles to drive traffic to Hubpages and then using the Hubpage as a preseller before the sales page.

I think the conversion worked out to about 1 in 80 hops.

Like I said, this was just for fun, so I am not an expert bum marketer by any means.

When you do get the money for it, build a simple site, create an opt-in page and then build a list.

Much better than bum marketing I would say.
Yeah I was thinking of something like that. Once I get some decent income rolling in, building a list is next on my agenda.

Make sure that you are interested in the niche, this way you will always have the energy to continue to write on the niche, day in and day out. Do what I like to call the "60 - 60 - 30" approach. This is were you work for 50 mins, then take a 10 min break, then work for another 60 mins and then take a 30 min break. Eat some food, rest and then start again. This will make sure you are full of energy.

Secondly, you mite start loosing faith in writing articles pretty soon, if you don't start seeing results fast. Don't worry about it, article marketing takes time. However, there is a method of article marketing and seeing money quickly. For each article you write submit it to this place first:

    Associated Content - associatedcontent.com

They will pay you for each article you submit to them, and you keep the rights to the article. So it is still yours to do what you will with. Furthermore, you will start to have some money in your pocket, this should keep you motivated to keep writing articles. On average they pay $2.75 per article, and if you can write 3 articles per hour, then that is like having an $8.25 per hour job.

    Hope this helps

Yeah I tried writing for others in the past but it always took up too much of my own time for my own campaigns. This time around im going to dedicate all my time to my own campaigns.

Still stuck on if i should:

      1. article ---> product page or

      2. article ---> web 2.0 ---> product page

backlinking will be done to both #1 and #1 for all pages

      any thoughts?

I also have no real budget to speak of so i rely on bum marketing. I have a had a little success but it does take time for it to bear fruit. I tend to write 2 articles for each product each day. I then take each of the articles and spin then 10 times so i end up with 22 articles. Doing that 5 days per week will give you over 100 articles out there helping to drive traffic to your landing page.

I would recommend setting up a landing page rather than just sending people to the sales page direct. Do not make the landing page too long as they have already just read an article and the sales page will go into a lot of detail about the product as well.

Make the landing page a short introduction to the product explaining how good it is but find at least one point that is not so good. If you make it seem as if the product is the answer to all their prayers it may come across as being a pure sales pitch. You leave that to the sales page to do.

    Here's what you should do.

    1. Pick 5 buying keywords for the niche you are targeting, be sure that it does not have a lot of competition.

    2. Write articles for those keywords.

    3. In the author box, you can put one link going to your blog or hubpage and another link directly to the sales page. This way you are hitting two bird with one stone.

Write 1 article / day or as many as you can and distribute it to high article directories, put your sale page link in author box as good as possible, build backlinks to 1 article directory link that you have publish the article and use an anchor text.

Backlinking the articles and landing pages will definitely be a big part of my strategy.

Thats a good idea. For article directories like ezines I will have to just send the traffic to the hubpage or wherever.

Have you thought about offering an article writing service or something like that, to help you get some seed cash together, and then invest in a project?

Starting without any seed money can be done but with a little bit of cash to help out at the start you'll get to where you want to go a lot faster.

I tried this in the past but the writing for others ended up taking up too much of my time for my own projects. If i do it this way then ill have more drive to make this work due to it being the only income coming in.

DC, Go with your first option.

I'm not going to say you'll make more money, because you may not.

You will be learning the proper skills for your future business, when you can invest money. In the future you are going to be sending traffic to your own websites to get opt-ins, and using your own sites for either pre-sales, or to sell your own products. Your first option simulates this method most closely and will let you hone your skills the most.

I'm going to send you a PM with some other information.

Im thinking I will be using the first method but with a little twist with having the option in the author bio to send the traffic to both the landing page and sales page of the product. Not sure if this is a great idea but it makes sense to me.

I also emailed you about the pm. Didnt have enough posts at the time.\

    Ideamarketers

Are one of the best article directories out. These methods take time to be effective, you will have to carefully make a list of keywords to include in your article.

Try PPC for quicker result but be careful, you can lose a lot of money in a hurry with nothing to show for it.

You might want to get a PPC training.

Never heard of ideamerketers but the top three are definitely in my plans. PPC like I said isnt an option right now and if I do decide to get into it in the future then ill definitely be getting a guide of some kind.

I have made some money in bum marketing, and while I primarily concentrate on article marketing for building a list now, this is how I got started:

      1. Find 5 clickbank products to promote, one for each niche. I tend to choose products with a gravity around 50-100, it shows me they are selling well, but do not have too much competition.

      2. The second thing that you need to do is create landing pages using blogger. I am sure that you could use squidoo or hubpages, but blogger has worked well for me. Create 5 simple one page review style blogs, one for each product.

      3. Keyword research, find at least 5 "root keywords" for each niche with a lot of traffic, and come up with 5 long tail keywords based off of each root keyword. (Ex. "dog training" is the root, and "dog training a poodle puppy" could be a long tail). Use google keyword tool. I have found it to be most accurate. At this point you will have 25 article ideas for each niche! Oh, and when you put the phrase in quotes it should have less than 20,000 competition. I have heard a lot of different opinions on this, but this method works well for me.

      4. Write an article or two around each long tail keyword in each niche. Now you have a minimum of 125 articles, all pointing back to a landing page reviewing your product. Never link directly to the sales page, in my opinion. I have done some testing, and a review page converts much better in my opinion.

This is a great method to use when starting bum marketing, and is the same method that I have used recently to make over $1,000 per month with bum marketing alone.

          dcimonline,

No I actually have not backlinked any articles, although from what others are saying I should be. I think that you should use the method I described earlier, and also see if you can build a few backlinks to the articles.

Try turning your articles into videos as well.

You can then upload them into various social bookmarking sites as well.
