As I'm reading Jason Fladliens 8 Problems That Keep Marketers Poor, I realized something.

I've way, way overcomplicated a lot of things I'm doing.

I've got three sites I'm working on. All of them mine, and all of them are not doing anything well.

Wanna know why? Its because I've over thought everything.

I think "I need to make a blog post about such and such on this blog and such and such on this blog and social bookmark and this and this and that and that."

Why?

If I were to write down this very instant, "Post once to each blog, ping, bookmark, update squidoo." I would know exactly everything I would need to do in a heartbeat, and its nothing so ugly and cluttered as what I mentioned before.

Hell, even just "Post once to each blog" would let me know the other stuff just falls into place.

Thats my overload tho, I don't just write that or think that, cause I know the rest of the work that is required I think about it as well.

Its got to be simpler than what I am making it.

I just showed myself and you how it is simpler than what I'm making it.

How much simpler can you make your work?

Can you take your 50 step action plan and turn it into 25? 20? 10?

What are you doing that can be simplified by simply changing your thinking about it?

I think for a lot of marketers, they need to spend less time thinking and more time doing. Taking action is what leads to results.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

Thanks for saying that, I was trying to get around to that but those words (though I've heard them enough here!) eluded me.

Essentially, Simplify what you think, act on what you know. Get it done!

Well I recognize the problem you write about. Often when I figure out "complicated" things and take action my reaction is "huh.. is it that easy?.." Looking back I cant understand why I did everything so difficult.

I think I know what you mean - when I read about "this method" "that method" I feel I should be doing all these things to help get more traffic/money/whatever.

However keeping it simple - just blogging for example then submitting it to social sites with a bot is really all I need to do.

However I am also spending time optimising the look of the site and navigation too - which I think is time well spent but this is in response to a high bounce rate. It is always worth responding to any data you get back in an intellegent way.

You should always simplify things. For example, don't go backlink building like crazy to your sites when they are not ranking well esp. if they are only a week or two being live. Create at least 2 articles for your targeted keywords, submit them to article directories. If you have 5 targeted keywords on a single site, write 10 articles.

Do some feeder sites at least 1 feeder site for your targeted keywords.

Social bookmark them. Submit their RSS to RSS directories.

Leave your site 3-4 weeks, and let those backlinks to sink.

If your site didn't improved that much, then you should do more article marketing then some backlink building.

I completely agree with you. You need to find what works for you, and just do it. Nike has it right =p

I find that mindmaps, checklists, and references help A LOT. It's also easier if you force yourself to do something in a set time (i.e. finish this article in 30 minutes).

I'd check out a WSO by Jag82 which has some great strategies on improving productivity and taking action.

      .

The trick is to find something that's proven to be simple and easy (some say EZ!).

Then keep on doing it until success gradually unfolds and manifests itself...
