Backlink home page or articles page?

Warriors,

Where do you think the focus should be?

Does one create backlinks to one's homepage (this is a membership site which has not affiliates nor adsense) or spend the time creating backlinks to article pages (actually, the link would be to the list of articles rather than every article).

Or both equally?

Thanks for your input.

I suggest making the majority of backlinks point to your home page but add a few to your articles as well

I have found backlinking to the article pages is much more effective to top google placement than just focusing on linking to your homepage. The reason for this is because it is much more natural that people would link to information they find useful...which means most people link to articles or specific pages on our blog or webpage. If google just sees straight links to the homepage it might throw off some red flags.

    Hi there,

You should definitely do both. The article pages can be targeted to a powerful keyword and you should drive linsk to that. Your homepage which is generally targeted to your main keyword and should get the majority of your focus.

    All the best

Basically, you should build backlinks to the pages that you want as entry pages.

    Home vs. Article

Normally, homepages are bad entry pages because they have dynamically-generated content that frequently changes.

Article pages, on the other hand, generally stay the same and make good entry pages with lower bounce rates.

Use your analytics to work for the lowest bounce rate.

    Hope this helps!

You need those backlinks on the subpages as well, but I'd usually just go with the homepage to start the ball rolling and others will link to my subpages (content). The link juice will also carry over from your homepage to all of those internal links from home. They will of course carry over from a subpage as well, but your homepage usually has links to all of the important pages.
