...or can it?

I made my first sale EVER on the 7th... so I decided to dedicate all my extra time to making my site better...

There is a PR 2 site that is ranking number 1 for the keyword I WANT TO rank for but Im no where near the first page... I figure I will get a few backlinks and Google will boost me...

I check my backlinks and Yahoo has about 37 found while Google has found none...

WHY!!! WHY!!! WHY!!!!!!!

How are you checking your back links in Google? Are you doing from within Google Webmaster Tools? Because just doing a search isn't the most accurate way to do it.

Ours is not to wonder why.

Best get used to seeing that, because Google NEVER shows as many backlinks as Yahoo.

I checked my backlinks for one of my sites on Yahoo Site Explorer (http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com) and I had well over 400 backlinks...

Google tells me I have zero.

Now I know that's BS because I submitted about 20 articles to EZA, and I also had done some of Angela's backlinks as well as social bookmarked to a ton of sites. I also submitted my site to about 10 blog networks...

Yahoo shows all of those links... Google doesn't... I don't even question it anymore I just keep on backlinking.

Dont even bother with any Google statistics. Anything they do release is an "estimate". They will never reveal exact numbers in regards to anything, especially when it comes to the search engine

true.. a few years back.. they have a pagerank tool bar button.. not up to date at all... keep in mind.. their ranking changes constantly.. not just major update in a few months cycle.. but update in a smaller scale with cycle of days...

Unfortunatley, this sounds like par for the course, I just started backlinks, Yahoo score 20, Google zero in one place, four in another

No tool is ever going to tell you the total number of backlinks you have. The closest you can get is with Y! Site Explorer and that severely under reports.

Yeah, All of them give you a rough estimate. However, don't expect to see results really fast because it takes sometime before you see the effect of your backlinking efforts.

PS: Perhaps I could be right if I say Backlinking is a long-term process.

ok... so I see that I am not the only one who has noticed this... I checked my webmaster tools and although it did not give me all the results I really had, it gave me more than what Traffic Travis showed me...

    Thankks Guys!

The more that you post on higher authority sites, like PR 3, 4, 5... the faster the google bot crawls them and they will show up faster. Just like when you see backlinks for Warrior forum, this is a high authority site and google will crawl this site much faster then your little PR 0 site. just remember that.

I have the same problem.. Alot more on Yahoo, but not even close to what I put out there. Yahoo seemed to take forever, too. At least they indexed my squidoo site.. Google won't budge on that one.

For one category page, I've been backlinking like crazy for the past 3 weeks.. Google won't touch it yet. Bummer! Not sure what to do..

Google does not show you all the back links. This used to be a great method to rank a website. You'd check a competitors site for back links and copy what they were doing. There is no one site for checking all your back links. The best is Yahoo - link:

it is as if google operates on a need-to-know basis..consumer will never care backlinks.. PR's .. only webmasters and internet marketers want to know any of that.. google makes it tougher to game their system... make a lot of sense..
