Do all images have to be hosted images?

I tried to paste an image in one of my posts recently and it asked me for a link. What if I just did a screen grab and wanted to paste that in? Do i then have to go get a websited and upload the file and then put the URL in?

Is there an easier way?

  • use flock browser from mozilla, it has capabilites to drag 'n drop i believe.

I also use imageshack toolbar for easy image upload.. it quick and dirty solution
  • Ryan,

except the places where it explicitly says "Upload Your Image" - all the rest of the internet works in the same way: you have the image already stored on a server and you link to it.

Have you ever seen a different way? I didn't.

    • I just want to paste an image into one of my posts at WF. I should be able to embed an image without having to upload it to a web site first. Why go through the trouble of posting a screen grab clip for a one-time post? and when I remove the image from the web page it's gone from the post. What is the sense in that?

  • Yes I noticed that to post an image at the WF you need to host it yourself. It makes sense to me because the pages here are a little massive anyway just with the text and code. Plus I know a forum where people post a lot of pictures and go a little nuts with them. Someone will quote a whole series of pictures just to say 'I like that' for his post.

It makes it really hard on dial up users. One of them posted that he did want to see the pictures so he didn't want to turn pictures off in his browser settings. He just didn't want to download and see the same huge pic repeatedly. Anyone on dial up has my sympathy. I used it for years, but most of the posters just said 'oh grow up and get broadband' or something like that.

I do have plenty of spare bandwidth and might possibly post a couple of short mp3 excerpts I enjoy. I wouldn't expect the forum to host them.
  • You don't need to host the images yourself...

You can add images here @ the WF 2 different ways,

    A. Add Attachment to your post... click the 'go advanced' option, and then click the Paperclip icon on your toolbar to attach your image. Then, once you have posted, right click on the attachment to view the url, and add that url into the field when you click the image icon.

    OR

    B. Upload images to your WF Albums & Pictures Photo Gallery within your WF profile, after you upload the image, right click on it, view the properties to find the URL, and use that when you click the image icon.

    Hope that helps!

    Jared

    • That is still not "easy" enough.

The OP wanted to copy/paste (like in MS Word).

    • And you can now add 'WF Geek' to your title. Thanks.
    • This one I can do! Thanks!
