Dear Admins: Abuse of Warrior Blogs

According to my understanding, you're not allowed to advertise affiliate links in blogs on the Warrior Forum. I've come across a few already though that are using blogs as another means to spam and advertise. I've reported those.

The blog is a great function that's added into the Warrior Forums and I love it. Is it harder though, to police the blogs? Because when we post a thread or post in the forums, anyone can see and recognise that it's an affiliate link.

However, for blog posts, because it requires a visitor to first enter the blog in order to see them and it's not as prominent (if I'm wrong, correct me) as posting in the forums, people may get exposed unnecessarily.

We have a couple people watching out for the blogs. Although it is sometimes hard to tell if they are only being to use to plaster ads.

I don't say affiliate links can't be used in the blogs, but when they go overboard and every post is nothing but affiliate links it becomes obvious what they are doing and we delete them all.

I would imagine eventually we'll have to create a new usergroup that people will have to be promoted to if they want to create a blog. After they have earned trust here.

It's a shame but things like that always usually end up having to happen..

While we are on the abuse subject Allen,
What are your thoughts on people using multiple ID's
Namely one ID with their real name where they act
like the pillars of the community,
but use anonymous ID's for numerous
junk posts to get a sig file seen.

What are your thoughts on people having multiple moods? Happy and "presentable" today, grumpy tomorrow?

Lot's wife thought she was a pillar of the community - until she was a pillar IN the community!

Uhh, if they're not really the user's blogs, let's just have the admins put content in them?

It's very simple when the domain in
the sig files lead back to the same name.

It's fairly simple to check on IP's.

However, this is a daunting job for an admin to do. Sure, you can implement a restriction that only allows one IP to log on to the site. However, this creates several pain-points:

Several people could log on from a LAN network. This means that several people on several computers with several identities on the same wireless network are typically behind the same modem, thus, the same IP. People on business/school/college/public/... networks will be duped. Not to mention that several ISP still use proxy servers to let them surf, resulting into one IP for a LOT of people.

I suppose that you could install a module that checks on multiple ID's and logs this. Combined with a reporting system, mods could sift through the crap.

What you are you trying to be an ass about?

I don't want blogs that are nothing but spam. What exactly is the problem with that?

I'm sorry, it's spam if it's sent to me without my asking for it, right? If I don't go to someone's blog, I don't see the content.

Er- that's email spam you are referring to. Allen is talking about content spam. Same animal, different delivery methods.

While you are certainly free to ignore a spam blog, Allen CAN'T. And I find it hard to believe you are so obtuse as to not be able to figure out why on your own.

See, the blogs aren't really our's...they are made available on ALLEN'S bandwidth, and at HIS cost.

And that gives him an unassailable right to limit content to what HE considers valuable to the organization as a whole.

Capische? So don't be an ass.

I was going to say treat the WF blogs like you would treat your own blogs
but some of the idiots here (not going to mention any names) probably
treat their blogs like a dime store hooker, so never mind.

Use some common sense and remember that the blog function is a
privilege given to you by the admin of this forum and therefore, shouldn't
              be abused.

Allen, thanks for all the great stuff you give us.

Too bad some of us don't have the sense that...oh, never mind.

                Steven,

Please calm down. There will always be clods who don't know
how to behave in polite society. You should be cheery for that
visit to the dentist. I heard somewhere that dentists have the
highest rate of suicide with police and psychiatrists right behind
them so don't push yours over the edge

                TomG.

It shouldn't be a spam free zone. Wordpress, blogger, et al. delete spammy blogs so I'm glad the admins are doing the same here.
