The Right Tactic To GRAB A Top Google Ranking?

I'm using SEO Quake to analyze how my site measures up against the sites that are above me in the search engine rankings. Right now I'm at #4 for my keyword and I want to break into the top 3.

The ONLY thing the competition seems to have over me is that their sites have more indexed pages.

So, my strategy now is to take all of my old articles that I've written, and turn them into HTML pages that will add to the # of indexed pages for my site. I've got hundreds...

Am I on the right track here? Maybe this sounds like a no-brainer, but when I analyzed my site vs. the competition, it seems to me that your total # of indexed pages -- in other words, your overall amount of CONTENT -- is a major determining factor in how you get ranked.

I thought I solved this when I added a blog to the "back" of my URL...as in, www.MyUrl.com/MyBlog)

However, the search engines are not counting my blog pages towards the total # of pages for my main URL. The blog URL now has a huge number of pages, because I write a lot of new stuff, but when I look at my main URL, the number of pages has remained the same forever.

I thought that constantly updating my blog would help my main URL, but it only seems to help the blog URL itself.

Any thoughts on this? Thanks Warriors...
