Help for Haiti - a request from a friend, and a gift for you

This is a cut-and-paste email I just got from Bob Serling, with a request to pass it along. I do not usually do this, but you'll see why I've made an exception for this one...

---- Begin request ----

Subject: Donate to Haiti relief - and get this free gift

Hi,

I don't have to tell you that the earthquake in Haiti is
one of the worst disasters we've ever seen.

CNN reports that more than 100,000 people are
reported dead, there are bodies littering the streets,
and countless people are trapped in the rubble
in urgent need of being rescued. The situation is dire.
The people of Haiti need our help and they need
it NOW.

So here's what I'd like to do to help. First, I'm
making a sizable donation myself to one of the
relief funds listed below.

Second, I'd like to ask you to make a donation too,
of any amount. When you do, my friend and marketing
expert, Bob Serling, will give you a free copy of one of
his most popular and valuable reports ever, "The
Marketing Repair Manual".

I am NOT collecting your name or email address
and will not benefit monetarily from this in any
way. My only objective is to get as many people
as possible to help in the relief effort.

Here's how this works...

====================================
Step 1: Make your donation to any of these charities
====================================

The following charities have been recommended as
exceptional sources of helping in the relief effort.
Please click one of these links and make a donation
of any amount. And remember, every dollar helps,
regardless of how small or how large your contribution
is.

Here are the links to connect directly to these charities
and make your donation:

Care
https://my.care.org/site/Donation2?5...rm1&df_id=5000

Habitat for Humanity
https://www.habitat.org/cd/giving/do...spx?link=1&r=r

World Concern
Major Earthquake Rocks Haiti - World Concern

AmeriCares
https://secure.americares.org/site/D...&linkid=topnav

IMPORTANT: If clicking any of these links doe not
work, please cut and paste them into your browser
and they will open up.

====================================
Step 2: Download your free copy of "The Marketing
Repair Manual"
====================================

When Bob first sold this manual for $97, he received the
following unsolicited testimonial, which essentially says
it all:

"Just read your manual and I'm not only blown
away about the amount of information in such a
quick, easy-to-read document...but how relevant
it is to anybody running a business.

Actually Bob, I've read the manual three times in
as many days (that's how easy it is to get through
it...and how much information is packed into it). I
initially picked it up to get some ideas to improve
the sales of my products. I'm now using it to
completely rebuild how I've been marketing
myself.

Bob, I think this manual should be the first thing
anyone reads before they head off guns-blazing
to do business. It shows exactly how to avoid
the mistakes most of us make (or, if you're like me,
how to recover from them now that you realize
you're making them). It will save people that buy
it a lot of frustration wondering why my things
"don't work."

It's short; not an ounce of fluff, and it contains the
blueprints to ensuring your marketing is doing
what it's suppose to -- attracting qualified leads
that'll buy your products.

I've already used it to ditch an idea I've been
banging my head against for the last month or so.
I read your manual and realized I've been barking
up the wrong tree. (Heck, not even in the right
forest.) It's also totally changed how I look at
copywriting and many new ideas at attracting
my market.

Simply put, it's your insurance policy against
making the mistakes most would make without
it, or are currently making (like me) and want to
figure out how to do it right. Thanks for making
this available Bob!
- Brett Martinson
So, as you can see, it's my feeling that this report
will become one of the most valuable pieces in
your marketing library. And it's yours free if you'll
make a contribution of any amount to help out
in this relief effort.

Once you've made your donation, just click the
following link to download your free copy. The
only information you'll be asked to enter is the
amount you donated so we can track how much
we've raised for the relief effort.

Power8 Marketing

You will NOT be asked for your name or email
address and you will not be sold anything or
contacted ever based on this. Our only intention
is to help relieve the suffering as much as we
can.

Thanks for your help!

---- End request ----

Feel free to forward this to anyone you think might help. Pass it along to your lists, Tweet the link to this post. Whatever.

Note that the donations are going directly to the charities that are doing the work... No middlemen.

      Mark,
If you think Paul that I've gone about this the 'wrong' way, well, I'm open to suggestions.
There is no "wrong way" to help. We each do what we think is right, in the best way we know to do. Beyond that, it's up to others.

      Thanks for what you're doing.

Absolutely loved the report, Paul. Actually when I saw your name 'promoting' it, I instantly prepared myself for an interesting and insightful read without thinking twice.

Btw, the funny thing is my local bank called me like 3 minutes after donating to verify my donation from my debit card. They have never done it before for ANY transactions I made online till this.

This cause me to raise some suspicions: could it be that some people are taking advantage of this opportunity to make a quick buck via donation scams?

Almost certainly. The fact that Bob picked known and trusted charities is why I used his email. Well, that and the fact that it gave people something I know is killer stuff for their own work.

        Paul
That's...annoying. Or disturbing. No, more like pathetic.

        Oh wells.

        Loving the killer content btw.

Which got me thinking of a little win/win strategy..

Why don't more people donate? Besides having no philanthropic interests, they feel that they aren't earning enough to give.

So they don't donate because they feel that they are giving away their money.

Which is being rectified in this instance: the donor gets a report that is of great value.

However, this caused me to think: why don't more people give away more great value stuff to spike up donations? Because they rather make a profit with their info than by giving away their products free.

In that case, why not simply allow the donor to get their free stuff free, but simply just sign up to the product creator's list?

In this way, the product creator doesn't 'lose out' anything. In fact, he is building his list at the opportunity cost of making a profit selling it. At the same time, he is also helping to boost up donations to charity.

So it's like a win/win/win. Product creator gets more subscribers (which can definitely be valuable), donor gets product for donating at the same time, and charities get the donations to do their goodwork.

Oh, and the people who needs the money gets them too. That's like the 4th win right thurrrrrr.

Oh wells, just a thought. Back to thinking out my marketing strategy with Bob's sterling experiences.

After spending a few minutes at each of the charity sites, I've decided to donate to World Concern.

      World Concern
Major Earthquake Rocks Haiti - World Concern

      My reasoning was as follows...

The page linked to above speaks specifically to the Haiti earthquake. Also, according to their site, World Concern has worked in Haiti for 31 years. Another thing that is important to me is that they have low overhead costs (94% of every dollar goes towards programs).

I just thought I'd put my thoughts/reasoning out there in case anybody doesn't have the time to look into all of the charities and wants to make quick donation. All four listed look to be solid options, but for the reasons listed above, I went with World Concern.

      Hopefully somebody finds this helpful.

My wife's school, where she teaches, is doing a major donation drive. Plus,
we've also donated through our church.

You really can't appreciate how truly blessed and fortunate you are until
you look and see what these poor people are suffering through.

And to think we bitch and moan when we get a serial refunder asking for
their money back 2 minutes after download.

      Really puts things into perspective.

We've just received an email from PayPal in the UK and they are working with Oxfam, so if people don't have money in their bank or on their cards, you can use PayPal to make a donation.

It is good to see so many people willing to help.

Not been to Haiti but we did see the problems in Phuket after the Tsunami, nothing like Haiti. Aid is important. Help is needed. Simple things for the survivors.

Paul thanks for doing this, and will pass it on as well.

Not only is this an excellent thing to do, but I can assure you that the charities listed will use the money correctly, and these donations will help the people of Haiti. There was a lot of discussion last night on some news sites about whether the large funds going to Haiti were going to be accounted for correctly. Well, with the charities Paul listed in his post, I can assure you that won't be a problem.

World Concern and Habitat for Humanity are among the hardest working groups out there. I've heard great things about Care and AmeriCares, too.

Thank you for this thread, Paul.

Made a $5 donation earlier, and looking to give another donation
    sooner than later.

I so, so wish I had the thousands, heck millions so I can afford
to give more (workin' on it)

I can't believe how lucky we all are.

In the grand scheme of things, and this can be said for the people
in New Orleans, or the Tsunamis in '04...we have it REALLY good.

How lucky are we to have so much, and complain when we think we
    have so little?

I'm guilty of this, and anyone here with an ounce of integrity must
admit it too. How many times must these natural occurrences happen
to remind us that we are living the good life...and if you aren't, we
ALL have the opportunity to do so at our choice where's for alot of
people...better opportunities happen outside their country they may
or may not be able to get out of.

    *sigh*

Can we keep this thread alive, so others can see and give them the
chance to make a difference in helping to save human lives instead
of worrying about our small $500 CB checks?

This thread should be stickied (or something similar), and honestly,
we shouldn't have to ask to make this all of our top priority and
    giving where we can...

I'm hoping someone with more experience, will spear head a project
to get a thread stickied so donations and contributions can be made
to the WF public where they may not be seen by most eyes here.

Just came across this thread. This is such a wonderful way to spread the word and encourage others to give to this worthy cause because the people of Haiti are still suffering. They are still sleeping outside, homeless.

I just made another $25 contribution and also tweeted about it. I sure hope my tweet reaches a lot of generous donors because Haiti STILL needs a lot of help.

Paul, thanks for allowing yourself to be the vessel. Bob Serling's generous gift is very much appreciated. I plan to make good use of it and hope to be able to make a more generous contribution to this cause in the very near future . . . in giving a little, one receives a lot.
