Google #1 of about 214,000,000- What Next?

Hi All,

I bought a website that Ranks #1 of about 214,000,000 results in Google.
The domain is bit aged, of about 2.5 years. Its poorly monetized for revenue. Not SEOized properly. Poor design too.

I know i will need to spend lot of time sprucing up.

But whats next of all of that? I'm totally not aware of its selling potential. Right now it makes some revenue through adsense only.

Can anyone throw some light on its selling potential and should i sell it immediately or keep for some months?

Thank you
Jai

Have you checked how many searches per
month there are for the keyword which you rank
    on?

Put some cpa ads on it. It should make you some good money if it's #1. How can it be SEOized properly if it's already number one? That's a strange statement, ha ha. But I see what you mean. As it is, doesn't matter does it? It's already number one but you'd have to work to keep it there. Make some money off it first, then you have some proof of earnings you can use to sell it a few months down the road.

You have to figure out how many searches are currently being conducted on the term that your ranked number 1. If the volume is not significant, start working on getting ranked for other keywords with higher volume.

What is the daily UV on the site? Continue to work on it, increase your daily rev via adsense and CPA, etc.... and once you have a solid consistent number in terms of revenue, then look at flipping it. You will get a much higher return...

and if its making you decent amount, keep it.

Here is a better question, why did you buy a domain but had no idea what to do with it?

        Anyway back to the point...

As others have said you need to find out the searches the keywords are getting.

Can you incorporate a list building technique on that page?

        CPA is another options

Adsense? Maybe your site is pure content and adsense could fit in nicely along with list building strategies.

What other keywords can you get? It already has a good ranking, other keywords will be easier to rank for.

This is just a few ideas.

Sponsor ads in the right column should be a good indication if the DN is good or not, the more ads the better. Try using the keywords in this https://adwords.google.com/select/Tr...timatorSandbox and see what the results.

"Have you checked how many searches per

    It has 2,900 monthly searches

haha yes its not SEOized completely but still the domain name, age, traffic and few seo techniques made it.
It has 0 articles in EZA, 0 bookmarks and all kinda stuff...

im afraid if our conventional seo methods would spoil it

Still i would make some design changes.. put in some CPA offers and ebay, amazon ads. I dont know how far CPA helps people outside USA though...

    Thank you
    Jai

Do the keywords themselves have earning potential or good commercial intentions?

Great example of why number of pages is virtually worthless in determining a good niche. All number of search results shows is the number of times the word or phrase appears in the index not how much traffic it gets or how much competition there is. Discussed this in the SEO section last month.

2,900 searches per month is not very much. Still if you can develop your own product for this you can make a bit of coin.

If it's already ranking #1 I would be really hesitant about changing anything on there......

      Ditto.

Any significant changes could be a recipe for disaster. You could fall out of the SERPS in a blink of an eye.

Are those 2900 monthly searches broad or exact?

Again you must of bought the domain to monetize it. If you don't what is the point of having it?

Add offers relevant to the keywords you rank for. What is the website you purchased so we can have a look so we can tell you what to offer?

the question is: #1 of about 214,000,000 for what?

the search volume is very important in this case.

Being that you haven't given us the URL of the site it is hard to give advice on the best ways to monetize it. What are the keywords it is ranking #1 for?
Just 'cause something ranks #1 it doesn't mean that you can sell people something from it. When it comes up #1 are there any adwords campaigns showing up? If so, what are they selling? If not then you may have a site that people are just searching for general information from, so adsense might be the only way to make money on the site. Are there any niche related products on clickbank or through amazon that you can promote on the site?

Well how much traffic is it getting currently and from where?

I'd say Analytics is your first step before you change anything.

All though the competition is high, huge search results, the monthly search volume for this keyword is only 2,900. Actually it also ranks #1 to #5 for few other related keywords.

I'm just going to put amazon and ebay affiliate ads gluing them within the site content.

    Thank you

Well, depends on how much organic traffic it gets.

If there's a lot of organic traffic, you could include
    - Chitika ads (mini-malls)
    - Amazon ads
    - Ebay Ads

All the traffic it gets are organic, as no good promotion is made here.

I just bought the website and looking forward to optimizing it a bit more and then monetize for revenues.

    Thank you.

Maybe ebook with link to product-of course do CPA adsense- It yours to play with and do a lot of split testing..I would use this site to educate your self by testing and tracking~ what you will learn with a test site is priceless

Change that statement around.....first "monetize for revenues" then optimize it a bit more

There's no optimizing when you're already in the #1 spot.

You can offer advertising (based on your niche) on the site for a fee.
You can put cpa/cpl offers on the site.

ok it ranks #1 in 214,000,000 which has only around 2900 searches per month
but the thing is i see wikipedia ranking #2 here... thats what i feel interesting in here..

Also it ranks #3 for a similar keyword phrase thats being searched 110,000 times per month

i think this is more powerful than the first

The site listed in your signature... I don't see you ranked for anything relevant. That site is worth nowhere near what you are asking for it.

What keywords is this site ranking for?

Well, analytics is important, yes. But more important, IMHO, is to do a lot of keyword research.

Do some work with SpyFu if you can pinpoint your top 10 competitors.

Oh, I see, you are selling that site for $1900. How did you value it? I thought you wanted us to help you? Give us a break!
