Help with Unziping Zip files:

Hi,

Is there a free software that I can download on my laptop to help unzip files. As of now, If a file comes in a zip form, I am not able to view it. When I click on the file, my computer just goes in an inactive form. This is very frustrating as I have failed to open videos and books, even those I have spent a fortune on.
Thanks
Annette

As far as software is concern I can tell you the name of it.

Go to Google and search for WinRar. I always use WinRar for unziping my files.

    Because its very relaible.

    I also use winrar

Just go to download.com and type in winrar - it can be used for .zip .rar etc

Tush, use 7-Zip...its totally free. I dont know how good it is though. Personally I sue WinZip, its only a one time payment of $39.00. Its really good and reliable, can handle all kinds of files.

Thanks for the immediate response. Do I just save the file on the desk top? After that, do I save my files there or they will open automatically now that I have it on my laptop? Thanks. I am working on them. Will let you know how it goes.
    Thanks again

Once you have an unzip program, and both Winrar and 7-zip work fine, then double click on the file and it will unzip. Easy!

Actually there is a good chance it is a Vista problem. (sigh)

Some installs just will not open them. I had the problem for awhile, finally did manage to get it to work, then it quit opening them again. It took a few hours of my time altogether. A couple of the programs mentioned already, WinRar and 7-zip have good reputations and are probably the quicker solution.

Win-zip will do all the work for you but its not free.

If you are looking for a free tool then I would suggest 7-zip.

I'd highly recommend 7-zip over the other solutions listed, because it can unzip pretty much every compressed format known to man, including winrar! It also has some pretty sophisticated compressing options available to you when you want to zip up your files.
