Twitter Karma, SocialToo Disable Bulk Unfollow

Twitter Karma just disabled the bulk unfollow function. Here's the message explaining why.

On January 15, 2010, Twitter instructed us to remove the "bulk unfollow" capability of Twitter Karma as it has been determined to violate their Automation Rules and Best Practices. We have done so in order to comply with their request. We apologize to you, our users, for having to make this change, but hope you will understand it is outside of our control.

I suspect the rest of the automated tools will be quick to follow.

Ah crap, this will set me back a bit...
I am sure someone else will come out with something similar very soon.

      Grrr, this is very frustrating.

I use Karma to do this for myself and a couple clients... urgh!

SocialToo disabled bulk unfollow as well

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause - we are as disappointed as you are. We are still firmly set on our original goals of automating your streams while enabling you to clean them up at the same time and focus on real relationships.

Just when I was starting to make headway with Twitter marketing. This is kind of a bummer. I wish I would have gotten into it earlier now.

This has been against their TOS for ages. They've probably just gotten around to going after the tools that use it. They had larger issues for a while...

Twitter has really seen some changes since I first started my account 10 months ago.

As much as I love the bulk unfollow feature, it will slow down the spammers. It is unfortunate for the legit people though...

As for Bill Gates, WOW! It took me 10 months to get half that!

It is a great and wonderful thing... Just thinkif they got rid of all those other auto tools how useful twitter will be once again. All the SpaMarketers will go running someplace else because they can not be bothered to actually stay on a site and participate it in ....

That's why I got my own tool created as soon I started using Twitter - I can do it myself from my admin panel

Twitter suspended my account due to using Twitter Karma and huitter. I think that this is normal, because last several months twitter became, a really spamming tool.

I use tweet adder to find relevant followers and make sure I slowly unfollow people over time...I was suspended recently which taught me a lesson! I emailed twitter and said sorry so they reinstated my account after a couple of days.

If you do choose to continue using a Twitter app with bulk unfollow still enabled, do so with caution. Don't think that Twitter doesn't keep an eye out for that kind of activity and won't suspend your account. I've seen a lot of big dogs go down for "suspicious activity" lately.

You just can't follow and unfollow 1000s a day.. a few hundred is reasonable and won't red flag. The only tool I use now is Refollow.com to manage my followers (I really like the filters.. it helps identify and clean out spam accounts like a charm).. in moderation.

Why I'm using Twittollower. Tahir's programmers baby that along so nicely that it works like a real human (albeit one who's been drinking coffee and taking illegal performance enhancement drugs). The problem with many of the other tools is that they mass unfollow. Big red flag time!

DISCLOSURE: I am an affiliate for Twittollower. I was one of the original beta testers. My opinion is biased. But, there's no affliate link here and I do believe it's a very good tool.

I tried refollow and it works, but the account I tried it on has just a bit more than 1k followers.
