Shopping Cart / Autoresponder integration?

by Bearded 8 replies
I'm looking for an ecommerce solution. This will be for mostly physical products, with the occasional digital thingie, for bonuses mostly. ProStores is currently the front-runner, since they've got very good ebay integration (obviously), as well as support for downloadables (a must).

The one sticking point that I've come across is autoresponder integration.

In the checkout process, there will be a checkbox for "receive updates/promos, etc" to join my newsletter. I need this to be seamless. They check the box, they place an order, then they're ON MY LIST.

Aweber has those neat-o Email Parsers that would do the job, but...

I'm not gonna make someone who just made a purchase from me confirm their opt-in. It's stupid.

So what do I do? I didn't really want to go with 1shoppingcart.

ProStores "says" they have integration with ConstantContact. Anyone using this? Would that provide the functionality I need?

It seems like this should be ecommerce 101.

I'd love some input from some people with succesful eCommerce (physical good) businesses, as far as what works, and what doesn't.

This sounds like the type of task that a good programmer could do in 1-2 hours max, or at least make the process easy for you. It could be added to the software easily.
It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

The problem is more with aweber. I can hack a little script that adds them to my list, but aweber then makes them confirm.

Have you ever bought something online where they had a checkbox in the order process to join the newsletter, and then they made you verify your email? That's ridiculous!

Will GR or Constant Contact let me funnel customers into an autoresponder without confirmation?

I guess I need some kind of hybrid email solution. I LIKE double opt-in for regular opt-ins, say from the homepage, but I'd rather not confirm customers. Does that make sense?

    Anyone have any ideas?

Is this a software solution? I MUCH prefer a hosted email service. A company like Aweber or Get Response has a TEAM working on deliverability. I don't want to have to worry about getting whitelisted and setting up feedback loops with all the major ISPs.

The problem is, if the service is any good (like aweber), they won't let you do single opt-in, EVER. Even if it's the only obvious solution, like in this situation.

GetResponse will let you use your campiagn email address to send contacts into your list. And you can set the list (campaign) to single optin so they won't ask for confirmation.

If I had 43,000 other marketers on my servers, I would want a team working on my delivery too.

      Thank goodness I don't.

They KNOW it is ecommerce 101! But THEY know something you DON'T, that is EMAIL or HUMANITY 101! If they can't trust you, they better DOUBLE CHECK!
