Am I a fool for thinking wordpress should replace websites?

I just created my first WP blog using my own server to avoid any trouble with WP.com
Am I wrong for considering just making WP sites in the future and not making traditional website landing pages for my affiliate sites? It seems like it would be much easier, save time and provide more flexibility if I use WP. Any advice on this?

If all your landing pages are going to be on the same domain then WP or Joomla are viable alternatives to creating pages manually. So much simpler.

WP sites get indexed very quickly by G.

If you want a keyword rich domain for each landing page, then setting up WP on every new domain is probably more trouble than it's worth.

I personally love wordpress because it saves me a lot of time and is easy for the average joe to work off of.

The only concern with the wordpress sites is that you can leak away sales traffic to some of your internal pages which can have an effect on your sales...

    But it's not horribly bad.

    Hi vidwealth,

you have made a wise choice by using wp blog for promotion!

Do you wan to build a list using wp blog?

I am currently using the blog to build my list by allowing comments from readers =)

When they comment and key in their emails, wp will forward it to me and at the same time I will be able to add them to my autoresponder

Try it its effective... I am having 4 email for 2 wks for now.

Calvin, I'd be real cautious about this practice.

Unless you have an easily visible statement that leaving a comment will land someone on your autoresponder, doing so is spamming. Commenters are NOT giving you permission to put them on a list just because they left a comment.

Spam complaints (especially since you are guilty) can cost you both your hosting account and your autoresponder account.

        Hi John,

I just allow the readers to comment on my wp blog, and I will receive their emails in my email account, from there on I go to my autoresponder to add their email address =)

I guess I didnt spam it that way?

Sorry, friend, you DID spam it that way. Just because you manually type their emails into your autoresponder instead of using software to do it doesn't change the fact that you are adding them to a list without first gaining their permission.

It's the permission that counts, not the method.

    Thx for all the replies.
Calvin, I am going to use my autoresponder to capture emails for visitors. I was unaware that WP will forward the emails but wouldn't manually adding those emails become time consuming for all the comments?

Go ahead with Wordpress all the way, especially if you feel more comfortable and work faster. I also use it for landing pages, squeeze pages and any web page I may need for my IM purposes.

As someone who has developed websites on multiple CMSs as well as from scratch using Dreamweaver, HomeSite, etc, back before Adobe bought them. Over a decade ago now.

After using WordPress over the past few years, I would never ever go back to using anything else. And that includes custom dev work for clients. It's easy for me to work on and easy for them to use and control their own content, which I like.

It's fast, flexible, continuously updated, has tons of extensions and plugins, etc. etc. Plus, it's 70% SEO'd by default - that's worth it by itself.

I'm an unabashed fan. (Though I wish they would leave the admin interface alone rather than change it for no reason).

Wordpress is very misunderstood. This is because of the fact that it is a difficult platform to grasp the concepts of in the beginning.

It is very worthwhile though. I've tried both alternatives - static sites and wordpress sites, and the wordpress sites are definitely very powerful.

    Hi john,

Alright I will be more careful in future. Anyway I believe the customers can choose to unsubscribe if they refuse. I too receive follow up emails without any opt-in too.

All I do was to manually opt-out for it.

I love wp. I just recently started making wp blogs instead of sites. There are so many plugins and other things that make it easy. Plus you get to write about stuff you are interested in and enjoy. While still being able to have autoresponders, banners, etc.

In my opinion wp is the way to go.

Have to say I like both WP for larger sites and then usually HTML/CSS for a small basic niche site, although for anyone starting out I'd 100% recommend WP. Like Brandon mentioned it is useful to have some basic coding skills under your belt if you're planning on building lots of sites so you can make minor layout adjustments.

We recently did our first WP as a website and considering the plugins and how well it does in the search engines we think it can be a great way to build a website.
