Does anyone still use for SEO and get traffic or sales from squidoo. Not in theory but actually using it for result currently... I never see squidoo lens in the search engines! I am refering to the S Engines not having a bunch of friends on squidoo. Thanks

  • Squidoo still sends me some traffic. To be honest I dumped my Squidoo efforts because it's so much easier to score traffic with Hubpages. Google and Yahoo both seem to like HubPages and I find the interface easier and quicker to use. I also like the Affiliate Integration better.

Squidoo never really fully recovered from their first G Slap. However, they are still an authority and you should use squidoo for link juice.

Don't get me wrong, there ARE lenses that rank, but they have nice incoming links.

I started out on Squidoo in early '09 and still build lenses. I do make sales, have some nice ranking lenses and originally I seemed to rank high with almost no promotion. I find now that, to RGallowitz's point, I need more backlinks to get a new lens to rank well.

There are a couple of reasons I plug away at it still, though. First, the money I make from Squidoo pays for all my other IM expenses (monthly memberships, domains, and hosting). Secondly, I've spent a lot of time lately reading through Terry Kyle's thread on his backlink experiment.

Several folks mentioned the leverage they can have with their forum signature in certain forums and adding a link to their sites for some quick backlinks. The only forum where I have any decent post count is on Squidoo. I realized I could use that but - even better - I also had over 100 lenses with PR0-PR5. Add a link to my Squidoo profile, make sure my lenses have an About Me section at the bottom that pulls in my profile and I have some instant backlinks. Granted - all from the same domain, but unlike most forum signatures, these come with some PR attached.

This is just a theory on my part, and one I've begun testing on my own this week as a result of Terry's thread. I do manage to get good PR on a majority of my lenses and I've had some success with my own sites. I'm starting to suspect that my site success has had more to do with the backlinks I've gained from Squidoo than anything else.

Some of my niches were in the ones locked up in the summer by Squidoo so I don't use them any more. Most of them were my money pages so I learned to own my own domain name instead of relying on free properties. They do still rank I see and you should def use them for linkjuice.

I also agree with above Hubpages ranks well right now as does Scribd.

I haven't had any problems with ranking from Squidoo and still get quite a number of views per month. In fact, I just checked out an older lens I made around march - I haven't made any updates to it since then and its still showing as the 4th result for its keyword in Google.

I built a Squidoo lens about that the product two months ago. I inserted the Squidoo lens link in the resource box. The plan was to drive traffic to my Squidoo lens than direct the traffic to my affiliate site. The first 7 days I generated three sales! And it still works OK. So why not...

thats funny because i just did some KW research and squidoo was one page #1 for some keywords. But it looks like its older lenses, not sure whether it still has the power for new lenses.

I don't like Squidoo. When I first started internet marketing everyone siad Squidoo was the best. Make Squidoo lenses for great traffic.

I never saw any decent traffic from Squidoo. I like articles, blog posts, social bookmarking, and forums way better. Anyway that is my opinion, Squidoo is just not fot me, maybe it works for other people.

Thanks for the answers guys. I have 1 lens that went up to # 300 in the catagory and I got a couple sales but it never really was that good for me. It seemed like it took daily updates for it to stick. I may give it a shot in 2010. Thanks

Squidoo can still achieve results in the search engines but you should be appropriately tagging your lenses and providing plenty of keyword rich headers, as well as text. I've noticed a lot of my lens traffic does come from Yahoo so perhaps the whole thing about the Google slap is true.

As a way to get traffic from Squidoo to another site it is decent. Especially if the lens is created in such a way that it builds some trust for the visitor and is intelligently written that it would make sense to follow the link.

However, as a good way to make residual income Squidoo is excellent.

Smart Squidoo/Hubpages users capitalize on niches and build their lenses/pages to rank well. Long tail urls and on page SEO are what it is all about.

Squidoo's not dead, far from it. Just look at the guy who was getting 20,000 visits per day to his lens, mostly from search engines.

Personally, I'm very happy with the traffic and revenue I get from my Squidoo lenses.

      Hey Fluff,

      thanks for Sharing Julie's Blog..

As for Squidoo being dead..well, NOT..

I think it was last November when I decided to promote a single IM product using squidoo. So I created the squidoo lens, bookmarked the thing, pinged and submitted the RSS feed. I also added a single link to a PR6 site and
linked the squidoo lens here in my sig temporarily..

Since the lens was "Sniper" focused..It ranked for a while in the first page
of Google. During that time I made 150+ on sales from that lens..

Sadly the 100+ refunded and so I was left with a net of $50.

So to cut the long story short, Squidoo can rank if you practice due diligence..

To leave it all on it's own and expect it to rank, I don't know..but to
do some backlinking..I'm sure it will rank, especially if you choose your
      keywords well..

      @Fluff..

Hey Fluff, is it alright to ask you if you can give us some squidoo tips..
Some of you might not know it but Fluff is kinda Squidoo expert

      All the best,

I don't do a lot of squidooing but my main lens is on target to bring me in around $800-$1,000 this month which isn't to shabby considering I have spent all of about 5 hours total on it and all I do now is throw a few links at it each month to keep it up there. .

But the truth is that all my other squidoo efforts (about 10 other lens over the last 2 years) have amount to a grand total of making me about $80.

The lens I have at the moment is an old one that has matured over time and has loads of backlinks these days I focus more on my own domains, but seeing as this particular lens is ranked number 1 or there abouts for some very competitive keywords that have big conversions I have to say that I think Squidoo does work if you do it right.

squidoo is not really doing good right now, i have lenses that rank 2nd with more than 1 million competing pages with squidoo. But they have become so uptight since google gave them a slap before. You cant seem to pass anything right now.

And in my case they have even blocked my ip address because they are claiming that the area of my ip address is being used from spamming.

Hubpages works much better for me. I make a lot more money for a fraction of the effort, get indexed faster and higher, and ever since Squidoo decided to get rid of most of the niches I was in I have no use for them anymore.
