Sending Mass Emails to List (WITHOUT Aweber) :D

Hey,
I haven't really spent too much time on Warrior Forum but I have been lurking around the Internet Marketing community and working with a few people you might have heard of.
Anyways, I am working with a client who has quite a large list (43k+) but he has never emailed them and only had them in a SQL database.
Obviously he has no way to message them and in order for me to set up a product launch I need to email them.

So my question to my fellow marketers out there is:
Any recommendations on Autoresponder programs that you can import a massive amount of email address and email to them without having them have to double opt in and confirm like aweber? (Obviously cost is an issue so cheap is better but not with poor service or deliverability)
Looking forward to some good responses,
Ryan

When adding a list of subscribers to an autoresponder company like Aweber etc the company require the email recipients to confirm their subscription.

If you decide to host a autoresponder program on your own server or use a program to send the emails in the mysql database, your server restricts you to sending 500 emails per hour. If you have a huge list, this process is really not feasible.

I would go with the autoresponder company as the longer term benefits are worth it but expect a loss in numbers of addresses.

Bumping your own thread because you didn't get an answer within 11 minutes ia a really bad habit to develop.

  • Unread emails or spam mails won't make you money. AWeber does it right. What's the point in sending out a flood of emails if you get no repsonse?

If your partner has never emailed them, then the list is dead.

It doesn't matter if they actually did opt-in at some point in the past. A list that isn't sent to regularly becomes worthless.

If you do try to send to it, you will be flooded with spam complaints.

Take a lesson learned and never do that again. If you have subscribers, send them stuff regularly.

They say that "absence makes the heart grow fonder", but that is rubbish. Absence is how you destroy a relationship. The value in a list is the relationship. If that no longer exists because you haven't sent anything of value to the list in a long time, then the relationship with that list is over.

    Sorry.

Only using Aweber/Icontact deal with your data? Forget that.

OP, google "The Art Of Mailing", you'll find an affiliate forum in the top 3 results.. Read the stickies before posting any questions there. You'll have to sign up to read that board.

Go find a coder to build a system for you .. The email system is not very hard and only requires 2 - 3 files.. You already have the sql database so all you need is a mail system coded.

I have clients on a reseller account on hostgator that email their 20,000+ members with no problems at all.. Course I code a mail system in all my scripts, why pay a 3rd party system...

If you do not have $100 or so to pay a coder then you should rethink your business. Not being rude but realistic ...

How do they do that with HG's 500 email per hour limit?

Never had a problem .. Its all setup on cron ... It can send it just as fast as aweber can. One of my clients used to have aweber until I built his site for him and then he dropped them.

Thanks alot for all the reviews.
A lot of feedback on the possibilities and I agree the bump was a little untimely.
To whomever stated the list is dead I disagree, if marketed correctly any list can be reactivated depending upon how you mail to them. If you continually send them offers without building the connection then obviously you will receive many spam complaints.
I spoke with a rep at Icontact and they advised me they don't require confirmation for opt in, has anyone who has worked with them had a similar experience?
I could get something coded but I am not familiar with the procedure, any other ideas?
PS: Money concerns I mean just to make sure it is cost effective and not extremely expensive.

perhaps look into an open source mailing script like phplist? (provided this isn't for spamming)

Mass Email Software - GroupMail Overview

It's awesome. No double opt-in required. You have total control. They allow you to send email to thousands. Comparitively cheap.

Here's the caveat: If/when you get spam complaints and you don't resolve immediately, your IP address WILL get banned by ISPs.

That would be a bad thing.

      Best of success,

    Hi Ryan,

One possible technical solution you can consider is:

    1. Export your database to a CSV format file

    2. "Clean" it up so that you only retain name, email address, when they got on that database and how they ended on that database

    3. Install a self-hosted autoresponder script. A great one is AutoResponsePlus (ARP3) which I used. You can then import your full list from point 2 above into this autoresponder. No re-optin required.
[Disclaimer: Pls do this for your own list only that you don't them to go through the trouble to re-optin.]

    4. Suggestion: When you first email to this list, do share with them how they got onto this list in the list (from point 2 above).

Technically that's how you can do it. Marketing-wise, you will need to think of how to address the potential SPAM-complaint.

    Hope this helps.

Just to add to what Keith said - keep the IP address as well, as long as you have the IP and time that they signed up with then you have some chance of removing any spam complaints.

Quite a technical route to go down though...

you can buy a software called autoresponseplus then import your leads on them.
This is a way of working around of double optin or whatever issue that Aweber or Getresponse company have. For that leads size you may need a dedicated server otherwise your host will basically suspend your account.

    Hopes that help...

Throwing something a little different in the stew...

Unless you need the ability to send out pre-programmed, timed messages, why not consider going old school and using mailing list software?

Most implementations of cPanel offer some form of mailing list program. Then you can just import your list and have at it.

Since the list hasn't been actively mailed in a long time, I'd send out some type of benign message (like an accidental "test" message with that word as the subject line and content) to clean the list an d purge the undeliverables.

that sure is an underutilized asset!! here is how i think you should proceed..

send a permission reaffirmation mailing to all emails on the list in your clients name... and you may get 30% response back.. you can embedded opt-in code in the emails. now that responded emails are considered opt-in..or may be double opt-in... and you have a good list to do the next mass mailing... without the reaffirmation process... since it has been a while.. those recipients will definitely accuse you of spamming...

I think you could use scripts like Interspire Email marketer and if you have a dedicated server then there is no limit to sending emails.
