Hey Guys!

I'm pretty new to this online marketing. I've been building a list of 650 subscribers since I started on dec 30th 2009.....

But I've got a problem, I really don't know how often to send out emails, how many of these email should be free stuff, and so on....

I made a few sales, but I think that's just luck!?!

I have 3 message follow up set up, and I almost 70 % of my opt-out were opting out after the 3rd message, so I changed it. But I was wondering if mabey there was too long time between the messages. I started with 3 days, but I changed it to 1 day.

If any one have any pointers I'd be happy to hear them!

Cheers!

Casper

My philosophy is that my list are my partners. I do everything I can to give them value, free stuff, free information, good hints, a joke every here and there. Its a huge mistake to thik of your list as just a bunch of selling prospects you are going ot bast off sales pitches to every product that comes along.

At the end of the day, build a relationship with your list and they will begin to trust you and get to know you and believe in what you are telling them. At this point you can hard pitch your list. And remember, hard pitch them on something good, something that will help them. Then next time they will trust you again. Hard pitch them on something crappy that makes you a bunch of money up front and good luck selling to them again.

In sum, put the effort into building a relationship with your list and offering value, then you can make money sustainably. Your nuber one goal is to maximize your LIFETIME value of your prospects.

Best of luck buddy and nice job so far!

it really depends on a few things. Are you promoting something every email? If your readers just look at you like a salesman, you're going to have a high percentage of unsubscribers. I'm still very new to email marketing myself but what I've realized so far is if you send quality information they won't subscribe. I like to send twice a week or every 3-4 days. I keep the emails short and to the point. I make sure to direct them to a link in every email. 1 out of 5 emails, I send them to an affiliate offer. The other 4 i send them to either a subscriber only article I posted on my site or something else I like that doesn't include getting their money. This way I train my readers to click thru to get the goods. Once I send an affiliate link, they have the habit of clicking the link to get what I recommend. Seems to work so far.

There is no set formula.. it all depends on your niche and your list...you will figure it out through try and error.. if a lot of opt-out.. that could mean your message is not to their liking .. or you send too many emails and your recipients do not see the value of your mailings.. some time less is more..

      Thanks for the replies!

I'm currently doing a lot of adswaps, aprox. 3 a week. I try to only offer quality products!

And I send out 1 promotional offer a week.....

To me a list if something to be cherished and taken care of - these are your buddies, your friends and the lifeblood of your marketing business.

As was stated already there is no set formula, but less is definitely more when it comes to offers. The last thing you want is people to stop opening your emails because they just assume it's just gonna be you saying "hey I know I told you to buy THIS cause it's the best... but now 48 hours later I want you to buy this other thing now cause ITS the best"

Put it this way... it's a lot easier to warm a list that you haven't talked to in 3 months than it is to replace people you lose from email them too many offers.

That being said, my guide is to email no more than once or twice a week and for every 1 promotion I do I send 2 emails with no affiliate offers - just pure actionable content.

I know it sounds counter productive in terms of how much you can make, but proving good content in a 2:1 ratio to offers helps build a good relationship - and the better relationship you have with your list the better conversion you'll get with your promotions.

The way I see it you should email your list every day... if your not somebody else is!

While I recommend giving your list free stuff... don't do it all the time, you'll train them not to buy from you!

The # 1 thing is to provide value ONLY recommend products you have bought yourself!

Always be building a relationship with your list - create content filled videos for them

I have e-mail list of over 5,000. I have only sent the one same business opportunity to them. I send e-mails 2 to 3 times per month. Much more than that has been counter productive.
They did sign up for a 7 day Internet Marketing Course and then it slows down after that.

Agreed I'm a Aweber customer too and I love their service. I don't tend to spam or email that often, just when I have free stuff that's valuable or a product I'm giving away/launching, don't get me wrong I cherish my list, I try my best to keep my subscribers happy.

Everyday? Owch, yeah I don't even like when my closest of friends email me more than a couple times a week.

I really can't say that I agree with you here... everyday? Unless you're providing something REALLY amazing everyday (other than another spam offer to buy some affiliate product that's the same as your last 50 emails) I'd just start ignorning your emails (or getting off your list), just as I do with every one else that emails me daily.

I like to be kept up to date of new products in my niche but my god man everyday? I do have a life outside reading emails lol

What kind of opt-out rate do you get with that tactic? Or even more so what's your open rate/conversion rate?

This idea that "if you're not mailing someone else is" - that's defintly flawed thinking. Because even if you're emailing then... the other people are STILL emailing them too - and probably with the same offer you're emailing them with. Which on one hand can build hype around a launch (for a good product) but can really annoy people when it's a crappy product.

Picture this... A person gets an email to buy a product... they look it over and go.. "nah I'm not interested"... then 25 other people email them later with the same offer... You think that's going to make them happy and buy or make then unsubscribe?

Odds are they'll probably go on a unsubscribe frenzy deleting every one that's been emailing them daily and screaming "I can't stand all this friggin spam anymore!!!" the whole time. (I've seen it happen lol)

Yes, 5 to 6 times a week is fine in the IM niche, provided that you give solid, useful info.

I'm on many marketers lists. Some with monster lists bombard their subscribers daily with promotions. Hardly ever any content. And then they wonder why their open rates and conversions are so low.

On the other extreme, there is a marketer with a huge list that ignores almost all product launches. But he still sends out messages very frequently, packed with good info. He promotes maybe 2 or 3 times a month. Reading between the lines from his emails, he's doing *very* well.

Bottom line is that you have to nurture your list and treat them as your friends, with their best interest always in mind.

I agree with the emailing. I have only emailed like maybe since 2004 about 6 different items to my contact listing. Can't really say it is a powerful list. But, I do tend to have a good amount that see value in what I give. I usually give something that I paid for so they would not have to pay for it. Didn't know at the time it was really helping me in the long run. Most of my closest associates started with offline ventures and slowly embraced the internet or those that are not keyboard shy...

Having an autoresponder set up to send emails is a must. The time frame of them going out is up to you. I start out daily then slow down gradually from there. In between I send out broadcast emails about various things personal, motivating videos...special events, etc

You need to decide what you are trying to accomplish with your list. Research what the top producers in your industry are doing. Opt-in to their mailings and see what they are doing...how often they mail to their list...what they say...This should give you a good idea on how to proceed.

I agree with you mark. Email me everyday and I'm unsubscribed within the third day. But it definitely comes down to which niche your in. Maybe the niche he is in likes everyday.
