Where to start in Internet Marketing? 4 Main Points To Success

I was going to make this topic a blog post, however felt that it would be more suited here and will keep it short and sweet.

I just got a email from someone new to Internet Marketing who asked about affiliate marketing verus having thier of your own website, which is better. My opinion, both or neither, please me explain. The question really should be:

Where to start in Internet Marketing?

I believe that both affiliate marketing, your own website, building out of lists, doing services for others, CPA, Article Writing and the list goes on and on that none are better or worst.

What really matters is massive action, learning to fail, consistency and most important focus.

Massive Action

First if you sit on this forum and read all the wonderful posts, you will get no where. You need to go out and try different things, you need to test out markets and methods that people discuss.

Now that you have done it and if you are getting no results, you need to go out and do it more. This is the make of break point for most people Learn what you did well and what did not work and then fix it and improve it.

If something is not work, then stop doing it. If something is working, then through more resources and time working on it.

Learning To Fail

Now 9 out of 10 things I do, do not work. Do I stop doing it? heck no, this is waaayyyyyyyyyy better then the 9 to 5 alternative or limited to a couple weeks instead of couple month vacations a year. I keep going.

If you are not failing, you are not trying hard enough. I am guessing that 1 in 3,000 people who try making money online succeed in making more then they spend. The reason is like I said before that when things do not work, they stop. When they fail, they stop trying. This is your true point to success KEEP ON GOING.

Now when you do fail, learn. Learn fast, and move forward.

Consistency

If someone tells you that you can build a webpage and leave it, you will make income for life (this is different then making a system). They are likely good friends with the tooth fairy. You need to be working on a website consistently to drive traffic, keep up with the market. Why? If it is that easy to make money in that market, others will come in and your margin will dwindle, to keep ahead you have to work at it on and on.

The other way to do it (and I do this), outsource. Hire a outsource person. The most important outsource person I think anyone can hire which is overlook is someone to constantly be working on marketing your company, weather it is articles, bookmarking, blog writing, whatever. You need to be having someone always marketing. This is what I did to avoid the recession.

Focus

This is the most important point of all. Focus on 1 thing to start and do it really really well. Weather it be Affiliate Marketing or your own website. focus on it, do it well and then move onto something else.

If you want to know how not to make money online. Spread all your eggs all over the place from day 1.

WOAH, that was a mouthful, I just sat and wrote and wrote and thats what I came out

Wishing the best of luck to all who are joining the Internet Marketing field, be fortunate that you know of this forum when you start. I did not know of it til 5 years into running a online business.

Cheers,
Mukul

Great points. It is so easy to get distracted on the internet. Everyone has a great way to make money...Stay focused on one way until you master it and then move on to your next marketing source

Surely making a plan would be in the top 4, with out a plan you will fail. Ok 99% of the time. Overall nice points tho.

    Hi Mukul,

    Interesting points.

It is so easy to give up, or even stop and start with our internet marketing campaigns, I have been guilty of both.

What keeps me in the game is "I know" Internet Marketing works for some people, and "I know" I have the ability to get to where I want to be. I have had small tastes of success and that also keeps me moving.

The biggest obstacle is not money or skills it's the individual.

Change is constant and unless we roll with the changes we will get left behind.

    Good post.

Yes you need a plan, however sometimes when you get in, Ithink its better to flow at the start and see what catched your interest, once you choose for focus, then plan. I leave room for creativity becuase if I am a plan, I would stick to it. I think I am planning not to plan now

Aaron - well said, it is all on the person.

I really agree that learning to fail is one of the biggest keys - because this is what set apart the hopefuls from the successful. In order to succeed in this business you have to be will go forward with it no matter what. If you fail it only means that there was something you needed to learn before you could succeed.

Really the best way to look at a "failure" is just a step towards you final goal.

A plan, and GOALS are vital but of course taking action is the most important step. But it's a lot easier with a roadmap.
Set your goals straigt, make a plan on how to get to the goal and decide on the actions you need to take

GOALS and steps to get there are vital I think.

"If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there."

    1. Subject Knowledge acquisition
    2. Set objectives/goals
    3. Establish needs to succeed
    4. Action

All the things mentioned by the OP fall into number 4 - action - for me.

Honestly is something that should be a basic in any business, specially Internet Marketing...

Failure is often why people give up, understanding it is a step to success I think it critical.

Also understanding that action has to be constant. Not just make websites and leave. I have done that and watched my income go down and it is tough to come back in the niche

        Thanks for the share...

        Cheers,

ZERO....go around this forum, lots of free advice, then see what interest you, buy some WSO on it (cheap and good info), then choose what you want. Anything else would be to assist you along the way.

Whoa there..... Just take a step back everyone. Can you remember when you first started? The way your stomach churned with excitement because you were going to make money online. Did you have a plan?..... no Did you know how you were going to make money?..... no Did you know who was going to teach you?..... no Did you fail?......... I left the last one blank because only you can answer that one. So anyway my point is what did you change from what you were doing, not earning money to earning money. So list these changes for success. PS failure has to be in the top spot
