Newbie seeking advice

Hi everyone,

I am a newbie to internet marketing and happen to come across the Warrior Forum, one of the ultimate resource for internet marketing online!

There are tons of information here which covers so many different aspects of internet marketing. Due to the sheer volume of the information, i'm literally lost on what is the best method/strategy for me to adopt for my circumstance. I hope to receive some guidance and advice here.

I have an online shopping website based on Magento, hosted on HostMonster on a primary domain. The website is set up in mid 2009. For SEO purpose, I have also installed a wordpress blog on a subdomain for posting relevant contents. The idea is to use the blog to improve the ranking of my primary site.

I am very interested to improve the traffic on my primary site. Some of the ideas (and issues) that I am toying with are:
1. Install an autoblogging software to boast up the amount contents of my blog - Will there be an issue with copyright if the software pull articles from somewhere else and post on my blog? I am willing to link to the originating article, but i am unsure if I will be breaking the regulations if i use nofollow links for all these links.
2. Link wheels - but setting up and maintaining link wheel is a pain
3. Article spinning and submission

Some of the software I am thinking of are wprobot, and SENuke, but I am open on this. The important things are that it must be effective and affordable. Ultimately, the software must pay for itself in terms of improved sales.

I would like to hear your honest view of my circumstance, whether i am on the right track and how i can improve the traffic on my site and ultimately my sales. Are the software that I have in mind suitable, or are they an overkill? Will I be infringing on any copyright issues if i use autoblogging?

Thank you

Cheers

First, there are far too many methods and techniques, some work better than other. But what counts is the quality content and lots of backlinks.

I'd go for blog as well. Definitely. There are some great plugins that you can use. I like WP Robot and heard about SENuke it's one of the best tools for automating the backlink process.

Also article marketing is a good choice when promoting sites. Other than that it is the onsite and offsite optimization.

For stability of income, and longevity, it's best to work smart, not sneaky.

Think about google. Study what google wants and what google hates.

Google wants content, but quality content, not garbage. Content that readers enjoy, not trash articles of no reader value.

Carefully choose keywords, then provide quality content. Do the simple SEO stuff, and perhaps a little back-linking.

      What does google *not* want?

Google hates any indication that you are gaming the system (ie excess/unnatural pattern of backlinks).
      Google hates thin affiliate sites.
      Google hates doorway sites.

Google is continually evolving, so any attempts to game the system will provide temporary benefits at best. Sure, with some sneaky strategies you can score a some dollars for a while. When google figures out your game, your income stops.

If you don't have enough of what google likes, and you have what google hates, your site will get flushed sooner or later.

Build quality websites, it's not difficult.

So, you want to sell me another way to easily make "X" dollars in "X" days? ROFL too funny! IM success requires hard work and lots of time. Most newbies do not survive the steep learning curve. Anyone who says otherwise is probably selling you a fantasy.

Thanks so much for all the advice! Please keep them coming..

I am selling physical products and aiming to do it for the long term. Hence, I cannot risk google to ban my site for any reason. As such i will definitely be focusing on building a quality site.

However, writing quality contents are difficult for me. In fact, I have only managed to write 3 articles for the past 9 months when I am in business. Hence, I would like to explore article spinning as well as autoblogging as alternatives.

Of course, I am going to ensure that whatever contents generated are of a acceptable quality before publishing them, instead of doing these for the search engine spiders.

Any suggestions for software which is relatively good and affordable for me to explore? If the results are good, I am willing to invest in a better software after some time.

In addition, I am already on Twitter and linked it to my blog so that whatever I post will be updated to Twitter as well.

        Thanks

        Cheers

Sorry to bring you the bad news... but those are NOT alternatives. At least, not quality alternatives.

If you have difficulties writing quality content - outsource. Find a great writer, build a long term relationship and let him/her write your quality content.

Spinning, autoblogging etc. are OK(ish) for sites built for ads/aff products and/or backlinking to your main site.

But the "flagship" site should really have only quality stuff.

    Hi Gadgetco

Personally I wouldn't use autoblogging on your primary domain.

Set up feeder sites and link to the primary domain from them. Social bookmark the feeder sites and primary domain to get links.

Then extend your link strategy but stick with quality (high page rank and relevant to your niche) rather than quantity.

Make sure you are clear on what keywords you are targeting and use variations of the keywords as anchor text. Make sure you are linking to all your product pages not just your index page.

Copyright issues are tricky and I wouldn't like to comment because it depends too much on what content you are pulling in and what you are doing but I'm not aware of anyone having issues pulling in RSS feeds.

It sounds like this is your only site - if so why don't you stick with providing your own quality content?

Get ideas from blogs, magazines and articles in your niche and write your own content aiming for quality rather than quantity.

If it's your main money site you want to take a longer term view and build it so people find it useful not spammy.

Once you have a good basis of blog content (don't forget to link to your product pages from your relevant blog articles) and quality articles on the MAIN article sites (ezinearticles.com) then extend to building feeder sites.

If you are selling physical products I would read up on Google product search and get your products listed in there - it's still under exploited.

    Just my opinion

    good luck

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely heed your advice and avoid autoblog on my primary blog.

    What about this:

    1. Set up a couple of blogs in other domains using autoblogging tools which will point to my main site. Any alternatives other than wprobot? I can probably can take part in some affiliate programs to sell related products? I'm based in Asia. Is there any trusted affiliated program which I can take part, especially in the area of iphone and apple related product and services?

    2. Spin my current articles and submit them to different article directories

Is SENuke good for this? What will be a good replacement for SENuke as it is pretty expensive for a newbie for me.

    Thanks

    Cheers
