How Do I Set Up A Cron Job?

4 replies
Warriors,

I was hoping someone could help me set up a cron job. I asked my host's support, however, they weren't at all helpful.

Basically, it's for Warrior Sean Donahue's product, "Backlink Booster". Basically, the script is hosted on my server and I need to set up a cron job to activate it every 20-30 minutes.

Let me know if I need to give you any more information. I don't know anything about cron job's so I'm not even sure if what I said makes sense.

I would appreciate any help you can offer me. I'm with Hostgator if that makes a difference.

      Thanks, Dennis. That looks fairly straight forward, I think.

      The only bit I don't quite understand is part 3;

      In the input box to the right of Command to run, type the path to the binary on the server for which the command you wish to run is located, then add a space and provide the path to the file for the file for which you would like the command to run.
      In the PDF I got with the script I'm trying to use, it said that this was an example cron job in standard format; (Obviously with the domain and key number changed)

      Code:
      */15 * * * * /usr/bin/lynx -dump http://www.yourdomain.com/blb/dripfeeder.php?skey=YOURSKEY
      So for part 3, do I copy that and change the domain/key or do I just input it like this;

      Code:
      http://www.yourdomain.com/blb/dripfeeder.php?skey=YOURSKEY
      Thanks again!

    Hi,

    Checkout A quick and simple guide to crontab usage - crontabrocks.org for a great explanation. You'll need terminal access unless your ISP provides a nice GUI for you.

    Good luck
