You already know.. you are just too lazy... me too

You already know an amazing number of answers to your questions. Many times you are just insecure or lazy but really, you know the right answer.

I used to have a mentor that would in response to my question say "What do you think you should do?" When I replied.. "I'm not sure" , he would answer "IF you were sure, what would be your answer?" A large percentage of the time if I thought about it, I would come to the right conclusion.

I'm not sure why humans are wired this way. It seems we do know a lot of what "should" be done, but we stand confused and wonder what to do. Our mind can help but we ignore it. We tend to seek a "guru" to provide the perfect answer in a glowing column of light from above.

What do you think about my landing page?

You know dang well in your heart its got problems. You can see it needs a border, you can see the colors suck, but you are hoping that it doesn't. Your mind tricks you into ignoring those "minor" problems, but in your heart you know it needs work.

How can I get more traffic?

You've read the posts, taken the course, you may even own Traffic Secrets, but your mind is hoping there is an answer out there that doesn't involve work. You know what to do, you just don't want to do it, or you don't want to believe it really takes that much effort.

I'm not speaking of questions about tech details which you probably really do need an answer on, I'm talking of those questions in your mind that you already have an answer for.

You can be your own coach many times by simple self talk. Pretend your problem is being asked by someone else. Well now suddenly you have lots of answers for them don't you?

The old saying "Too close to the forest to see the trees" is so true. That's why coaches are needed. They really are, but many times you can snap out of it and be your own coach.

    Hello,
I was in this situation so many a time.
My solution was to find a working partner with a very sharp poking stick.
    This worked for me.

      That's what she said.

But yah, very true. If something is not perfect or not the way it should be exactly, I'll just put it up anyways and start making some money, slowly tweaking it in the meantime.

Scott, so true. I don't coach anymore in the IM niche, but when I used to, about 70-80% of the time the client knew the answer, they knew what to do, but it was their own mind that got in the way. Our minds definitely play tricks on us. Take mine for instance, I still think I'm the best-looking Warrior around..........

The bottom line is this: It is ALWAYS easier to give somebody else advice than to give yourself advice. What that is, who knows? Perhaps laziness is a factor. It's easier to help somebody else out than getting ourselves out of the chair and doing something/researching something/learning something which could make ourselves and our families more successful.

Sometimes helping others is a great way to learn things yourself too! I have noticed a lot of great questions on this forum. While I admit I do not have the answers to most of it, I have enjoyed finding out the answers for myself if I feel it can help me, too.

Most of us are lazy procrastinators; but when there is a crisis, we are all capable of rising to the occasion! It's easy to "want" an extra $100 and then do nothing about it. But when the letter comes in the mail telling you that your phone will be turned off if you don't pay your $100 phone bill by next week, it's amazing how we can spring into action and get creative to find that extra 100 in no time.

If we all pursued success and money with that same urgency, we would all be sipping champagne on the beach in no time!

Your post is an eye opening for me.
Specially I found this sentence of your post very inspiring:

"You can be your own coach many times by simple self talk. Pretend your problem is being asked by someone else. Well now suddenly you have lots of answers for them don't you?"

      Well said.

We know many things but still we keep searching for the same informations online.

So we must put in practice those informations we already know
      instead of wasting of time.

I love that..."if" you were sure. That is so true...alot of times I know what to do, I might not always know the exact steps to reach it, but I know the overall game plan. Just need to ask somebody for a little help. Thats why I love this forum, I always get an aswer to my question! You can't beat that.

Rod you need to have another drink, since your mind is definitely playing tricks on you. The fact I'm the best looking Warrior and it is a fact not a trick. Just check out my grandeur below.

Scott, my mentor uses the same approach on me. Especially when it's something we have discussed several times before. By asking the question back to me, it gets me to thinking and sure enough when I dig deep enough, I know the answer.

But what I really like out of that method of teaching, is it usually spurs me on too something else that rounds out the answer. Before that happen the forest before the trees syndrome.

So I guess I qualify as a lazy thinker and would most likely make a good coach as I have all the answers once my mentor ask my questions to him back to me. However, I'm not cheap when I coach.
    But I can be had.

Ken, way ahead of you (and why don't you join me?). Btw, one of my mentor has a great tactic, he walks up to me and simply kicks me in the a**. Another one used to take me out into the field and push me into "sets" (those in the PUA community knows what that means). Worked like charm.

      Now where's my martini shaker.......Ken?

Sheesh, Rod! you would think Scott would have put the martooni shaker in place before he started this conversation.

You know shaking a martini shaker up and down, is like my mentor. He hangs me upside down over my computer; then shakes my thought process up and down.

Once I finally get the point he is trying to make, my neurons start firing. Once I have thinned the trees, I'm able to focus and then become my own coach just as Scott implied.

By practicing asking yourself questions it will become a habit. In my case it's going to take a long time, but I already know it's worth it. And before I forget, ask the questions out loud to yourself. Then answer yourself out loud.

I have noticed when I do that people tend to leave me alone and I get a lot more work done.

Very good post. I believe that most people who call themselves newbies aren't
newbies at all. As you said, they already know the answers to their questions, but
they refuse to believe the answers, because they want something that
sounds better... something that does not require work.

Unfortunately, everything requires work... some tasks take more time
than others, but you still need to do something to make things work

Good post, Scott. I only hope those reading it that are unsure of themselves will give it the credence it deserves. Perhaps it's the universal human need for validation and acceptance that makes us seek answers to questions we know the answer to.

    Good post.
I believe that whenwe stop to ask a question we are asking to get acceptance for what we already know and believe.
There are many good coaches out there and until I got one I was just spinning my wheels. Once the coaching started I agreed with what was right and wrong to do and did not work any harder to progress as I did before then to accomplish nothing.

I believe a coach/mentor is vital, all of the answers are out there but a good coach/mentor will help you put the puzzle together so you can see the full picture.

Last weekend we went out for breakfast to the pancake house - was very nice (always great for a treat). I was expecting good pancakes BUT what I wasn't expecting was to walk out feeling inspired!

Dave and I were at the counter and he was paying whilst I was nosily peering through to the kitchen. On the wall there were many quotes- some attributed and some not. One stuck out at me as the obvious reason why some are successful and others are not.

"The reason many people fail to recognize opportunity when they meet it is because it goes around in overalls looking like hard work"

Sadly this was one of the un-attributed quotes- but whomever it was that said it, hit the nail on the head!

We spend far too much time looking for an easier way- and disregarding the obvious because it looks like hard work.

I walked out of the pancake house that day with a new resolve.... (and a very full tummy :p)

That is the major downfall of working for yourself - you lose motivation and feel like you aren't getting anywhere. Wishing you could find a magic genie to make it all work all because you are your boss and sometimes the boss just isn't tough enough.

The best thing you can do is set goals for each day - I will get this and this done today. I will send out this many emails - I will post this many ads - I will add content to this many blogs. Take the time to actually write it on a piece of paper (not a to do list on the computer). The reason being is that you can really scratch it out on the paper when you have finished and feel that you have accomplished your task.

You're right on Scott... I spent like 1/2 hour thinking about and responding to a post of someone claiming to be desperate the other day...

I really wanted to reach out and help and encourage this person... when I was done, hoping that I had in some small way helped them, I found two other posts from the same person, basically saying they were desperate and what should they do.

ALL THREE THREADS had great responses, lots of outpouring of solid advice... all ignored and another thread opened with the same what should I do to make cash immediately question.

Oh well, that's a half hour (plus a couple minutes for this thread) that I won't get back - better get back to work.

Thanks for the reminder slap in the face.
