3 Sales in my 1st Week: Affiliate Review sites work!

There is some very good advice on affiliate marketing here. And I've been
asking tons of questions to see all the different systems.

In the meanwhile, I went with one route and created a review site that listed
12 clickbank products.

The niche is "weight loss"

(I was going to go with Acne but will do that one next).

I submitted a handful of articles to ezinearticles (with very careful keyword
research to grab targeted visitors) and with less than 50 visitors to my
site 3 sales came in.

I always knew that affiliate marketing is where the money is at, but if I hadn't
stuck with Adsense for so long then I would not be off to such a great start
here.

Just some positive food for ya.

      All products were from $30 on up. You can check clickbank, there are a ton of
      listed products to promote.

      I did not go with the most popular as the first listed though, as I have many,
      many years reading about fitness and also experience.

      6% conversion - not bad at all, although there's not much data to base the purchase of that new private jet on.

      It took about 2 days before a sale on my first 5 articles, then the other 2 just came in this
      morning. Total articles were 12 submitted.

      I'm not article marketing for direct sales, however, but to get my site ranking in time.

      That was always my long-term adsense strategy, which is paying off wonderfully today,
      so I will take the same approach to my affiliate sites.

      I am going to build up my weight loss site to at least 30 product reviews and never
      stop creating articles for it. And I will also article market the site for the long haul.

      I plan on starting 3 more review sites over the next 4-5 weeks and then work on all of
      them at the same time, all in the health niche:

      1. 2 articles added to each site every day.
      2. 2 articles submitted for article marketing each day.

      That totals 16 articles per day on an average work day to growing 4 review sites.

          I use XsitePro 1

          They key is to really focus on your keywords and article writing, next comes the
          site layout which is nothing more than a simple top-to-bottom listing of products
          with reviews and a star rating system. (think Rempel's "conduit" style).

          In terms of money I should have started affiliate marketing a long time ago, but
          I've had such a passion for Adsense that it was my first big challenge.

              I outsource when I can afford to. But to be honest with you, I'm not sure I would trust
              my affiliate business to run on the writing style of someone else.

              I got these sales because:

              A) My website reviews were spot on, and realistic.
              B) My article marketing articles were educational and motivating.
              C) I used the right keyword to get traffic from ezinearticles.com

              So for now I am going to "slave it out" with my own writing as I did with my content
              sites.

                    Type in "weight loss" in Google...

                    Look at the number 1... its Wikipedia

                    Go to the EDIT section... and then put an affiliate link in there...

                    That page prolly gets so much traffic and you can just put you AFF link right in there

      Adsense is my full-time income stream, just under $4,000 monthly, which is affording
      me the time now to move onto something else.

        3. how do you mainly get traffic to the sites above, other than EZA content writing & publishing... ?

        4. don't you think that if you focus a site to just one product review, you'd not dilute traffic and get a boost in sales to that product link?

          Article sites are a great way to get people to your site. 3 sales with visitors is really really good. Reviews are a decent way to make money with affiliate marketing but so many people are doing it now that it has become the norm. A lot of people started doing this because of the Google slap which is Google only allows one url to be posted for a particular product when using adwords. Whoever pays the most and with the best click thru rate was awarded the spot on their sponsored search results. So people started writing reviews so that they can post there own url and not worry about the duplicate url rule. The key to writing a good review is to make it sound really genuine and don't load it up with links. A few here and there is good mixed in with a highly concentrated number of content keywords. Doing this will get you some good ranking in the search engines which will help get traffic to your site

          I have lots of Adsense sites, but with 4 real money makers, and 1 site bringing in
          over 90% of my income.

          But I really don't want to talk much more about it because I've literally bled out my
          fingers going over it all.

      They are researched reviews with a little bit of "assumption" based on the product's
      advertising information. I keep them very very simple, no hard selling.

      It's up to the customer to read the sales page, ask the vendor questions, then
      decide for themselves whether or not to buy.

    I'm interested to know Wariors comments on how to 'review' clickbank products impartially without buying them. Product research for the conduit method is easy for physical non-info products as there is actual customer feedback everywhere but you'll never find that for CB products.

        John, I have never heard of "Common Sense" in terms of a keyword research program or
        website. Can you enlighten me? A Google search didn't help as "common sense" is a very
        common phrase.

      I've been meaning to reply to this because my "reviews" are not what you
      probably think they are.

        And it doesn't have to, because your visitors are arriving because they're already pre-sold.

        Now they're in decision mode.

        This is why your writing needs to be authoritative and trustworthy. Cut and dry.

        You still need to be compelling - but leave the hyping to the merchant.

    Congrats on your success! I've been bulding review sites for about 5 years with much success. One thing I learned is that in niches where many others are already doing it, you can differentiate yourself and build credibility by posting customer/user reviews instead of editorial reviews. Web hosting is the prime example, where there are thousands of "top 10" review chart type sites, but only a few where actual customers do the reviewing and, in my experience, they convert very, very well. It was the inspiration for my WSO; I made it for myself, and when I saw how successful it worked, decided to offer it to others.

    John, first congratulations! I know you are very successful in AdSense uisg article marketing. I have a question though. You mentioned that you have both AdSense and affiliate sites, do you separate them in two or combine them into one? My thinking is you have to separate them as you don't want your visitors to get distracted to click other products in AdSense, instead of go to your affliate links, right?

      Sorry I missed your question.

      To answer, I am approaching my affiliate marketing venture in an almost 180 degree
      turn from my Adsense approach, which is why I have asked a bunch of questions and
      did a ton of research on the variety of ways others approach it.

      I remember in Chris' ebook he recommended having the one main affiliate product at the top of the page. John you have the top 3 products at the top of the page. Do you think having only 1 or as in John's case having 3 products will reduce or increase income. Has anyone tested this? I'm guessing different niches may react differently but has it been generally tested?

      I think people who are using conduit style keywords like reviews etc may be better off seeing the top 3 products but for other article keywords it might be better to send them to the best converting affiliate offer. Maybe mixing both according to what the keywords are may be something worth trying. Guess the only real way to know is to test.

        It's definitely too early for me to be testing but I would say it also depends on the niche.

        For example I'm looking at starting a few more niches soon that will have at least
        20-30 products straight down in a row, with no need to focus on just the top few.
