dont bother getting exact match keyword domains

I was doing some keyword research for one of my niches and was analysing the following keyword phrase (without quotes)

"multiple streams of passive income"

Would you believe that there is a website with the following domain multiplestreamsofpassiveincome.com that doesnt rank well for this very long tail keyword phrase - but the domain is listed for other keywords in google?

Goes to show that you dont need an exact match keyword domain to get a good ranking in google. Im sure this domain probably had a good ranking for this keyword phrase when it was first registered but it couldnt maintain its ranking.

I am fairly new to this but as I understand it, it may have been better to title this " you don't need an exact match keyword domain."

I know you did mention that in the post itself.
But the site owner probably has just not optimized very well for that keyword. Not sure- have not taken a look at it.
Had the owner optimized for that keyword he/she would definitely be at an advantage because the keyword is in fact in the domain.

    Could be wrong!
    Hope I'm not.

It helps, but is just part of an overall SEO marketing strategy.

There are a lot of factors that go into ranking besides the domain name. If enough other factors are right, you can rank on page one without any keywords in the domain name. The site you cited must have more factors favoring the other keywords you mentioned than it does for the keywords in the domain name. It's still a good idea to get a keyworded domain, but it's not a total deal breaker if you can't.

Take a look at any google search. It is very unusual to find an exact keyword domain on the 1st page.

As others have posted, you can rank very well without the exact keyword in your domain. This does not mean you should not try for exact keyword domains.

So, you want to sell me another way to easily make "X" dollars in "X" days? ROFL too funny! IM success requires hard work and lots of time. Most newbies do not survive the steep learning curve. Anyone who says otherwise is probably selling you a fantasy.

One little sign of something "not doing what it is supposed to" and we start to think it disproves it.

I have several exact keyword domains, one I just registered the other day, as soon as it was indexed it showed up on page 2 for the keyword, no optimization either.

Of course it will go down if I dont optimize it and get some anchor text backlinks to it, but it is nice to have that little advantage!

That's right, Ashley. Every little optimization tactic used is an advantage. When our site has more advantages than the other guy's site, it ranks higher than the other guy's site.
