What does this mean .net.au?

Hi,

I have the domain www.bluewidget.net that sells a clickbank product.

I've noticed that the clickbank product vendor has now got the domain:

www.bluewidget.net.au which directs straight to his sales page which normally comes under a different domain which is the product.com.

How can he have my domain but with the .au added to the end? His domain also comes up if I search for my exact domain in quotes.

Will this have an impact on my domain - I don't know how these things work so sorry if I sound like a complete numpty.

Thanks in advance

-Beth

Somebody bought "net.au" domain and is now selling subdomains as domains.

The same as "co.uk", "com.au" etc.

  • "net.au" are domains registered in Australia. If that is going to have an impact we cannot say, it will all depend on your content and SEO that is what search engines consider for ranking your website.

When you search for "bluewidget" as domain... you may get: bluewidget.com, bluewidget.net, bluewidget.co.au or .co.uk, bluewidget.net.au or .net.uk. They are all different website address. It's just like you may get Melbourne city in Florida US, or you can also get Melbourne city in Australia. Same Melbourne name but it's different and far away each other. And don't forget... the search engine is always giving you more information close to what you search. So it will give you alternatives regardless the competition you may think about.

The term blue widget (without quotes) doesn't show up either site on Google's first page, but bluewidgets.com is there.

Somebody probably got bluewidgets.com because bluewidget.com was already taken.

Because bluewidget.com was already taken, somebody else had to get bluewidget.net instead.

Because bluewidget.net was taken, somebody else had to get bluewidget.net.au instead.

      And so it goes on ( and on . . . ).

Anybody can register a non-Trademark domain with many different extensions. The .net.au is an Australia extension, but there are many more for other countries that the exact same domain name can be registered but with the different extension.

Backlinking and article marketing, etc. should keep you competitive in the serps.
