Anybody runing webhosting business? I wanna ask somthing

Hi guys,

I wanna ask who are involved in web-hosting business. Why some Hosting companies such hostgator promote hosting packages that has unlimited disk space & bandwith with cheap monthly fees compare to reseller package that has limited disk space & bandwith like Aluminum Reseller package has 50 GB Disk Space & 500GB bandwith with monthly fees higher than hosting packages?

Hosting Package Unlimited Disk Space & Unlimited Bandwith at $8.95/month
but
Reseller Package 50GB Disk Space & 500 Bandwith at $24.95/month

If I buy reseller package then how i can offer unlimited hosting packge?

      Another thing, Is it good idea advertise hosting company through CPA networks?

    Your bandwidth technically isn't restricted but there are other restrictions on server resources. (the super fine print, that might even match the background color of the page) When your traffic gets too high you run out of these and get suspended (!)

    The amount of traffic you can push through will vary depending on your page load. Html pages are light, wordpress or cms are heavy.

    If the traffic and the disk space were truly unlimited, CNN, ESPN, Google and Fox could all run off of one HG account and just split the $9.95 a month 4 ways. Might sound like a great plan but could have problems.

    Offering unlimited traffic with a reseller package is ok (maybe a bit dishonest) but won't work if you have to live up to the claim.

    thanks Lloyd for your great info .. Actually looking to get hosting which i can host many domains at the same hosting account .. beside have some good freebies such as free Ads credits (google, yahoo, msn & etc)

    Nobody has UNLIMITED disk space and bandwidth. If they have 10 1 TB hard drives dedicated just to serving you, the real PHYSICAL amount of disk space you have is 10TB.

    They use the word UNLIMITED just to attract you in because most webhosts understand that many of their customers use less than 10% of the advertised space. But if they give a specific number, you would become too calculative and compare them with other webhosts.

    So apart from making you think that you're getting an infinite amount of value, they want you to stop comparing them to their competitors that list a disk space cap.

    So if you're going to use high intensive resources in a shared host, even if they tell you that you have unlimited bandwidth, they will boot you because in their TOS, it is stated that they can suspend you if you overuse and hog other customer's resources.

    Sneaky eh?

    Wow the game is played like that TylerF .. I got it & Understood .. so choosing hosting in terms of disk space is not as important as the reliability of the company?

      A very big yes to that. Think about it, you are going to be running a business that depends on your websites being up and running. Do you really want to just go with the lowest priced company when your income is on the line?

      Is saving $25, $50, or even $100 a month really worth risking your business?

      Also you should have more than one hosting plan so that if something goes wrong (and it will) you can be up and running in a very short time.

      The second plan should not only be with a separate company you need to make sure that it is in a completely separate data center as well.

      Hosting is really the backbone on which your internet business rests so choose carefully.
