Is this a legal way to create a product?

Lets say I take an ebook and send it to a translation service and have it written into spanish. Would the spanish version infringe on the copyright of the english version?

    I think it´s against copyright... because in the end it´s the same product in a different lenguage...

    Dont just copy other guys work...

      Yes, that would definitely be illegal.

      That would be fine unless it's expressly prohibited in the license, but I can't imagine it would be. I've never seen any restrictions like that in any PLR.

      While I would talk to a lawyer before doing this, I don't think there is a problem with doing that.

    If you have the right to resell it, I doubt it makes a difference what language. Just make sure that you can legally change it, because translating is technically changing it.

    I used to be a lawyer, worked trademark infrigement for a U.S. national sportsware company, which is different from copyright law but akin thereto, and Dennis above hit the nail on the head. I would go with that advice.

    How would you feel about someone taking your hard work, translating it into spanish, selling it and keeping all the profits?

    Wouldn't you feel cheated?

    You might need to ask for permission from the author. You may not call yourself the author but translator.

    I wrote a few books for Sams about 10 years ago, in English of course. Sams then sold the rights to the book to foreign companies that put out their own editions in Chinese, Czech, and a few other languages. I can guarantee you that if some foreign company just put out their own translated version without purchasing the rights from Sams, they would have been in some serious legal trouble. So is it illegal? Definitely.

    Now if you are dealing with PLR products, you should have the rights to do whatever you want with the copy, including translating it into other languages.
