Too many of us in the IM niche want to focus on making fast money rather than building a business.
I must admit, I am guilty of chasing money too!
But once I started building relationships with people in the business who are making a real income, they all had one thing in common.
They had a REAL business.
So here is my blueprint for 2010 to scale my business. You can modify it for your own business as your strengths and weaknesses may be very different from mine.
Determine what your major focus is this year.
Last year was a big year, but I want to go to the next level in my business and I determined that I have to focus on one thing... List Building.
Your one thing may be something entirely different, but you have to choose one major focus in your business and stick to it.
Realistically evaluate your strengths and weaknesses.
My main strengths are PPC and other traffic buying strategies. I like the instant gratification of getting traffic whenever I want it.
I had to realize that I was doing too many different things and it would always lead to me away from what I am really good at. For example, I am not very good at SEO because it is too tedious and time consuming.
Develop a strategy to reach your goals based on your strengths.
My plan is to use PPC and traffic buying to build an email list of at least 50k.
The problem here was that using Google and PPC is a pain in the @** unless you give them what they want.
I also use many other traffic getting strategies, but Google is the best thing smoking even though they are going crazy banning people lately. I think a lot of that is because people are linking to one page landing pages or thin affiliate websites.
Google likes landing pages on content rich websites and since I know they love Wordpress, I decided to do a little test.
I built a landing page based around a Wordpress blog and I was amazed at the results I was able to get.
From that test, I developed a complete strategy for lead generation and list building using Adwords.
I am also using my blog as a lead capture funnel and I am focusing more on that as well.
People are finding me through my blog because they are actively searching for what I do. This makes blogging easy because I just blog about the stuff I love to do!
Consistently maintain your strategy with a plan of action once you see some results.
My plan is to develop a killer relationship with my list by over delivering and offering a huge amount of value.
I already know this works because I have been doing it for quite some time on a small scale with my current subscribers.
I know that if I focus on adding more subscribers and continue to over deliver and add value, my list will continue to be high quality.
Having a quality list is more important that a big list and at some point I would lose the ability to build relationships if I try to serve too many people.
Have a backup plan and a few other alternatives in case your strategy doesn't work as well as you hope.
Since I know my strengths, I am confident that my plan will work.
However, I also have other streams of income just in case.
I have my own products that I will use in a couple of ways.
One way is to make sales. Another way is giving my products away as a bonus when I decide to promote other people's stuff.
Did I mention promoting other people's stuff? Another way to make some $$$$.
I also do consulting, coaching, training, etc. which is all based around my strengths. These are mainly conducted via webinar format because I am a stay at home Dad with health issues.
