Anybody else getting emails with this subject line? I've been getting them every few days. Today, I had enough, so I replied to the sender:

Congratulations! You've lost a subscriber.

Why on earth would you use such deceptive subject lines?

Good luck,

Gene

He replied back within minutes:

I'm happy to have you leave!!

Stay away from marketing!!

Right. Where DO these brilliant wanna-be marketers come from?

I won't mention any names of course but I encourage you to unsubscribe whenever you get an email with a blatant deceptive subject.

Gene, these emails are as old as the Internet. The only ones of these that
I get are spam because all the lists I'm on are of marketers who know
better. The other ones...unsubscribed a LONG time ago.

In fact, I can count the number of lists I'm on, on one hand.

    Paul Myers
    Kevin Riley
    Willie Crawford
    Jason Moffatt
    John Taylor

    And that's it.

The amount of junk that is out there is mind boggling.

And it's a sad commentary on this business.

I agree. It's a poor effort to get you to open their email. I would be very surprised if they DIDN'T lose lots of their subscribers by using that tactic. The subject line should generate interest, then your body text should follow on with relevant copy to his subject.

I've had a few that stated, 'I am quitting internet marketing!'... when they are clearly not. Getting one like that was ok, but then about 5 followed suit. What other tactics will these IM's think of next.... 'Open this or you'll DIE!'.... It wouldn't surprise me.

In fact, that would probably be a good concept as many people are supersticious. 'If you don't send this email to at least 10 of your contacts you'll get bad luck for a year!'. Think how many people you coul hit with your offer using that tactic.. lol.

I don't know. Maybe I've just become boring but my subject lines are all
pretty straight forward and to the point and STILL get people to open the
      emails.

Personally, I think people just want to be told what's inside of the email so
they can decide whether or not they want to open it. I don't use fancy
subjects. Rarely will I ever even use a subject that one would call different.

Those of you on my lists know what I'm talking about...pretty ordinary stuff.

But folks, if you're straight with people and offer them value, it works.

You don't have to be a freaking master copywriter to get people to open
      your emails.

      Just be straight with them.

I've gotten more of these than I care to remember. The thing is, the affiliate programs that I am in don't send sales notifications. The only way I would know if I made a sale is if I checked my statistics in my back office. When I do get e-mail from these affiliate programs, its sent from specific senders who I would be familiar with or from the companies themselves.

The "you just made a sale" subject probably has a high open rate, but also a high unsubscribe rate once people realize they didn't make a sale... causing disappointment and
      anger to set in.

Steve, I'm with you on the being straight forward.

Although I have in the past and probably will in the future use the "Thank You" subject line.

Gene, I just LOVE your reply - I have one of these gems sitting in my inbox right now and I'm going to reply with something similar to this one.

Another one that has really been bothering me lately is the one titled "You have a list of 10,000 Subscribers". I unsubscribed to one of them a few days ago after receiving 4 of them from the same bozo within days. Now I see someone else is sending me the same crap.

You've inspired me to unsubscribe from this one with something along the lines of "Now you have a list of one less subscriber!".

    Thanks for the inspiration Gene!

I received this same e-mail today too.

I was like, how the hell would (name withheld) know when I made a sale?

The offer itself was just as outrageous and deceiving...

Ironically, the guy who sent me that e-mail had sent out a mail 2 weeks ago promising he would stop sending crap and will now only send out real solid information.

I get more annoyed when people use 'personal' in the subject line when it is not personal.

Good point. I have to admit I've never been clear about this specific rule and prefer to err on the side of caution. Perhaps a big name like Frank Kern, Willie Crawford or Mike Filsaime has become more of a brand than a name?

Glad you liked it, Steve. Do try it, it's rather fun.

Like you, I'm only on a few "keeper" mailing lists as I call them, but I'm also usually on 3-5 lists on a temporary basis as well. Most of these are a result of squeeze page report I wanted to check out or from a War Room free offer. I seldom stay subscribed because all they do is market. That's their business, but if you want to keep me on your list offer something solid that I don't have to buy once in a while. An endless parade of affiliate programs doesn't impress me.

Just goes to show who the "moron" is. I get spam email with the same subject line as my DLGuard sends me when I do make a sale. There's no end to tricks that spammers will try. Always some new twist to get that spam delivered and opened.

Sounds like this guy is like a marketer I emailed with questions about his product. He quickly pasted some crap answer in that didn't address my questions and his price quote was twice as much as his site said.

I replied that I'd pass since I couldn't get my questions answered ....
    He replied ... Good.

Why people build a business just to run prospects off, is beyond me.

It doesn't make them a scammer or a spammer. It's just a tactic to get people to open the email.

Doesn't mean it's the best approach. Now it just makes it hard to tell the difference between a REAL sale notification or just another cheesy attempt to get me to open an email ad.

Technically, according to spam laws currently on the books, it probably does make him a spammer. Deceptive headlines violate CANSPAM.

Uhhh .. yes it does. I'm not on their "list". I'm on very few lists. These emails come in as unsolicited commercial email, which is SPAM.

Uhhh, you never said that you weren't on their list. Unless I missed it.

In that case, then you may be correct.

Man it seems like I'm missing out on some great spam emails..

I'm SHOCKED you would even ask that! ...but yeah, I delete anything that seems exaggerated or over the top. Be real or be gone!

Sometimes I reply with pure nonsense. I went to my Sent folder to retrieve an example for you:
Thank you for your offer, but I have a question. Do you think a crusty ointment bag can be cleaned, or should it be thrown away? I'd like to know because I need a good way to carry pudding to my doctor's appointment.
He replied, "what the f*** are you talking about? Are you retarded? "

I gamed him for 3 or 4 emails before he quit responding. Haven't heard from him since so I think he unsubscribed me...either that or I drove him mad!

        I love your reply LOL

I really have to start trying some of this stuff. Trouble is, as I said, I
am on so few lists, I don't get crappy subjects like these unless it is
actual spam. And then I just report it anyway.
