Use an Old product to sell a new one

I thought this was great marketing. A publisher of a book on protecting assets has offered a free download of the older version of the book in PDF format. At the start of the book it has a blurb about the old edition being free.

At the end of the ebook it has a link to the newer version and something like "If you enjoyed this 2000 edition you'll really enjoy the latest version with 30% new material"

I thought it was a great way to drive traffic, get buzz, and sales. If you have an old product, don't toss it, consider giving it away. You can get it listed in all the Freebie sites and such for good free traffic.

If you want the above mentioned eBook it's called "How to be Invisible" and can be found here:

Yep... that works. Kinda like giving away Camtasia 3 and
    offering upgrades to Camtasia 5...

    Great idea.

I'm not sure if 30% fresh content would be enough to click the buy now button, but then again it depends on how much I valued the info.

Fantastic marketing tactic though, I could see this being used is a variety of ways.

    Thanks Scott

I agree. I would give them a stronger reason to get the new edition.
