Making Wordpress More Secure - Your ideas

So I've been hearing, reading and even kinda sorta seeing wordpress blogs being hacked left right and centre! Its depressing to say the least considering that most of my income comes from websites using WP as a cms.

Are there steps one can take to make wordpress more secure besides the usual "hard to predict" passwords?

I mean it scares me that a website making $5k + using wordpress could so easily be hacked by some dude somewhere who's just having fun.

So.. I don't know if this could be one of those All encompassing threads but I'd love it if experienced members could share tips and resources on WP security.

I'm not an expert...

I feel your fear as I have several sites that would be painful to have hacked.

I've used most of the advice on the wordpress codex site to help harden my installs - might be a start.

One word of advice is to make backups often and store them somewhere off the primary server.
