For Community Owners: Affiliate Links and Site Promotion, Questions???

Hello,

So, I have a new community that is really starting to grow, and I'm starting to get worried about a few things...

One, I'm starting to see some embedded links within forum posts, as well as blatant self promotion.

As a growing community I don't want to turn people away, however, as long as they don't get carried away I think it might be ok.

What are your views in allowing members posts links amongst your content, I feel it could be good as an incentive for them to keep posting as long as it is 'inline', and an incentive for my site SEO wise...

On a forum like this one I can understand no aff links at all, since everyone is about making money...

I'm in a small dilemma here, what do you think?

"As long as they don't get carried away" is something that could be an issue. I think if you foresee it as a problem now, you should make some rules about those issues.

If the links are their own products that's great, so long as it's relevant to the topic. This is something that you yourself will have to monitor and control.

As a community owner, I know the problems you face. You want people to post, but you also don't want your community to turn into a pitch fest.

I suppose you could always start a section called "blatant self promotion" and let them post in there!
