I need your help. I wanna upload some videos to my blog but I want the video to show. As of May 2009 you have to pay $60 for each blog in order for the video to actually show and not a link. I was wondering is there anyway you can play with the html code so that it shows the video. I played with it and it only shows it in Internet Explorer but is blank in Firfox and Google Chrome.

So can anyone help me get around this. Is there something I should add to the html code or take out? I don't mind buying it, but you have to buy one for every blog you make and its gonna be a little costly.

Thanks
Moe

Why not do what everyone else does?
Upload it to YouTube and then just embed the link into your blog.
It couldn't be any more simple could it?

    Good luck, Pete.

    Yes, use Youtube.

Who exactly is trying to charge you $60 for this?

Wordpress is. Here is the link: http://en.support.wordpress.com/videopress/

I don't wanna upload it to youtube because its some unique content that I want to only have on my site. So youtube isn't an option.

I am not a WordPress guru by any stretch of the imagination, but I think you might have trouble doing such a thing through a WordPress Blog that is actually hosted by WordPress. They will likely control closely what you are able to do on Blogs that they are hosting.

You might need to sign up for a website hosting package with an ISP (I use HostGator), and then set things up a WordPress Blog yourself. That is much easier than you would think, as you can do it through the web admin panel (CPanel --> Fantastico Delux) that the hosting company provides. It is just a matter of a few clicks and it is there.

It will probably set you back around $5 per month (plus a Domain Name registration fee of around $10 per year). But you'll find that it is much better to have your Blogging site, as you can then drive web traffic there, rather than to the WordPress hosted site.

Once you have your own site, then you can make sure that a video player is available to play your video content through any web browser. You get to fully control who the video playback is handled.

      Hope this helps.

      Cheers,

      Wayne

If you are referring to Wordpress.com, it is their site and not yours so it really doesn't matter if it is also on youtube or not.

If you are referring to Wordpress.org, the site is your own, so just upload the video to your server and embed it into your page/post. This is free (except the cost of your hosting) and you own all the material.

  • You're hostage to their hosting and rules. So your options are limited. Self hosting gives you additional options, but additional costs as well.

I believe you can set videos to private with Viddler too, and embed them on your blog, unless I'm mistaken?

    Definitely go with youtube.
There is an option to make the video private so only those who know the url or in your case those who see it on your blog can see it.
If people would make a search on google or youtube they wouldn't be able to find it.

I would agree with everyone else and upload your vid to youtube.

But, if you really want to host your video, there are plenty of video plugins that can assist you.

Here is a link to some popular WP video plugins that are free.

    Hope it helps,
