Virtual Assistant/Outsourcing - To Manage or Not to Manage?

Hi gang. Really need your help on some stuff.

I am looking at hiring a Virtual Assistant to help me conduct routine SEO tasks and look after elements of customer service, and service delivery. Nothing complicated at all, just bog-standard internet marketing/seo with a bit of online research and database creation.

I have seen this site: Outsource to India - Hire offshore dedicated resource for your business from Virtual Employee
Has anyone ever used it? I looked for reviews of the service but found none. I think I would be paying 1k a month there, but the assistant would be supervised and setup in an office, and I believe working 40 hours a week. I like the sound of it, because it gives me piece of mind that the person is doing the work.

Can anyone recommend some other good places to shop around when looking for a full-time VA? I have had some experience with outsourcing on elance, but it was not a good experience, and I was messed around by some pretty unimpressive companies on there.

Do you think employing directly is the way to go (finding them using elance etc) or do you think a service like virtualemployee.com is the best, and if so, can you recommend any other equivalent sites?

Cheers, really appreciate any help anyone can give.

      Hi Endgame,

When I hire VA's I typically use Elance, but you can also use Odesk, Guru, or one of the many other sites like this. $1100 a month isn't a great deal for a regular everyday VA... You can find much better deals elsewhere, you'll be able to choose from multiple companies AND, you won't be stuck with one company that you don't like if they don't perform to your expectations

Hope that helps, please feel free to let me know if you have any other questions about the topic.

    Hi,

    Either way, I would:

    1. Always ask for a trial.
    2. Clearly define the tasks with expected delivery by times.
    3. If you can, pay by the task, not hour.

Do those three things and you could do quite well. You can pay around $300 pm direct but very often they are double or triple earning so it's the same the world over, you pay for what you get and the more you pay, the more dedicated attention you get...

    All the very best, Allen

Why don't you look for an individual such as a place like ODesk.com?

I hire all my staff direct through onlinejobs.ph - I have found some awesome staff that way, for a lot less than $1000 a month. And if you want to be sure they are working, just sign up with AgentGuardian.com - $15 a month, and you know exactly what they are doing throughout the working day. Combine that with ActivCollab for project management, and you have an awesome virtual team
