    It is tempting but from long experience, I will wait to see how it goes, if given a choice I would rather have the power of a portable computer, over a over hyped, iphone.

    just my feelings, on the matter.

    Seems cool but I'm gonna wait on this one . I have an iPhone and it seems to do the trick for me now. No camera and no flash is a downer though

    I don't any apple products but my good friend Jani G has a mac book pro and I think it's slick. I think Apple is taking over and is the way of the future.

    Question - For internet marketing purposes PC or Mac?

        I think it does have built in speaker because you can watch movies on it.
        Mac compares this to the iphone. I don't understand why really. Isnt this more like a note book or mini macbook?

    I'm a bit concerned that there's gonna be lots of issues with v1. The iPad seems a lot more technically challenging that the iPod or iPhone. Truth be told I've never owned an Apple product but I respect them for their marketing and design, and think if anyone can be successful with ebook readers, they sure as hell can.

    It definitely looks like a winner though once they iron everything out! The ebook reader industry really needed a company like Apple to step up and bring some good design to the table. Most of the current offerings are either ugly or difficult to operate.

    I'd consider one for sure, but probably not the first version.

      I have an iphone 3gs and it was the first apple product I have had. I have

      used a mac from a friend before and it seemed lacking. Lots of stuff that

      I couldn't do. I will stick with my pc. I watched the whole launch of the ipad,

      and it looks pretty amazing. So much more than just a book reader, as

      mentioned above. I also saw that someone said that you can't have flash.

      You just cant get flash from adobe. If you look hard enough you can install

      flash on it like I did on my iphone 3gs. The ipad also has 10 hours of usable

      battery life. Nice for watching movies on those long flights.

    I'd love one, but I'll wait for a future version. It does seem to be in limbo between the iPhone and a MacBook so I'm not 100% sure what it's biggest advantage will be. But it's Apple, so I want one.

      I always do this with new product launches. The first version comes out, they see whats wrong with it/what to build on...then version 2 comes out right after that is much better.

    Dont think it is for me....but in fairness the price point seems reasonable enough. I would have thought that it being a premium product and brand, they would have entered the market at a somewhat higher price.

  • iPad...I will wait and see. I do not read a lot and it might just end up as a white elephant. Movie and music player...I have other device to play them...don't need to buy iPad just to do it. The first generation usually comes with problem. Wait for them to iron out these problems. Also, I think it is relative new, and the application developed for it is very limited now...might need to give it some more time. Personally, I will hold my gun. But if you are a gadget guy with some spare money, it is ok to buy and try it out.

    I am not an avid Apple addict like some.

    I will get the Ipad, though.

    Why?

    Because when it comes to actually viewing things on a big screen, you either have WAY TOO BIG or WAY TOO SMALL.

    The IPhone, (I have one) is great for apps and for general wasting time, but let's face it, you cannot really view movies on it, read books on it, view photos on it, etc. for any extended period of time.

    Imagine your entire bookshelf 1/2 inch thick.

    Imagine your entire photo albums 1/2 thick. Not to mention the fact you can actually pull it out and view it vs. looking at it on a dumb computer screen. You can pass it around, flip it over, and interact with it like a real photo album.

    Imagine your entire movie library 1/2 thick and you can actually watch the dumb thing without squinting your eyes.

    Now imagine the fact that it comes with that AND every Iphone app available at the app store? Right off the bat.

    And it is at a fair price too.

    Imagine, booking an appointment, going to the airport, reading the paper or watching the movie on a flight, grabbing quick directions from the airport, visiting a relative and showing them the latest vacation photos without having to lug around anything larger than a book?

    Well played Apple. Well played.

    It looks cool. I actually want to buy one as I like playing with new tech toys, but......I won't be buying one. I just don't see a need for it yet with all the things I do. Who knows, that might change. Until then, my laptop will serve me well. I am curious to see what it's market penetration will be in 3, 6, and 12 months.

      I won't be getting one. I've seen a lot of people online saying it's severely limited in what it can do and I tend to agree. I'm really not "wowed" enough to go out and get one.

    What was the price?

    As with all Apple products I have learned to wait until version 2 comes out. That way all the bugs can be worked out. I used to be an early adopted, and it was too much of a pain in the butt. I would rather use what I have and then once it really works, go for it.

    I'll probably grab one. I couldn't believe the price - thought it would be a lot more.

    Interesting opportunity for app developers for this new platform, although it obviously won't have the take-up of the iPhone. I'm sure some clever developers will make a few dollars developing new apps for this!

    I'll get one the day it comes out. I'm a gadget freak and am always on the prowl for a good way to view documents (many of them WSOs). Currently using the Viliv S7 for this purpose and loving it, but I usually like the Apple fit & finish.

    The biggest problem I have with these and most apple products is the ability to upgrade. At a first glance of this product, the only way a general consumer would be able to upgrade the hardware is to replace the device.

    Where to start? That video says it all: the only advantage is 3x color screen. If you can't use flash or java most of the websites you visit are worthless, at least for a multi-media device. No Hulu for example. I've been told it doesn't have USB ports. Only 10 hours of battery life on a device that just looks pretty or you read with? Wow.

    Great business lesson where extreme fanboy status and branding trumps common sense. What an expense featureless gadget but people have money burning a hole in their wallet. Recession and debt be damned.

    I'm so jealous. I really need to invent an expensive thing-a-ma-gig that kind of acts like a phone or an ebook reader or something. Hey how about a "Ped Grapefruit" ? Some of us have large feet and that little eggy thing sucks. Gotta go while the brain is churning out these nuggets....

    Come on...how many years have tablet laptops been out that are also thin and can do a lot more than this thing can do? Yes it is neat but it is VERY limited in what it can do. It is all up to your needs really and I don't think there is a need for such a item for the mass general public myself. Netbooks took over recently because they offer a good computer experience, awesome battery life and because they are cheap. Oh and they are super small and light.

    This i-pad is i-garbage if it can't do flash too. What is the point in having a almost 10 inch screen and NO ability to play flash?

    http://news.cnet.com/8301-13506_3-10443465-17.html

    Flash is needed! If it had flash well it would be a ton better but still I think a netbook would be better in most situations. I have to admit though that the form factor is cool. You can lean back and such and still use it. Very nice!

      Normally, I'd wait until v2 or v3 before jumping in. But, on this one, I want to get my hands on one as soon as I can. There's just so much potential here that people aren't seeing (unless, of course, they are keeping those thoughts to themselves).

      Yes, I'm getting it, although since I want the 3G version I'll need to wait longer.

      I love my iPhone and Macs in general (they're just easier to use).

      My uses for the iPad:

      * As an ebook reader (HATE the Kindle. I'm a fast reader, and I feel like an idiot squashing the stupid button every few seconds to turn pages. Why is the Next button so hard to press?);

      * To make better use of my dozens of iPhone apps. I have a yoga app which is hard to use at the moment, because I have to lean over the iPhone to see what position is next. With the iPad, I'll be able to prop it up next to me. I've got the Jamie Oliver cooking app too, which will look great on the iPad;

      * As an idea store/ retriever. I always get ideas when I'm not at my desk, and I like to work on them immediately, but typing on an iPhone is no fun;

      * To keep up with Twitter. I have several Twitter iPhone apps, but they're a pain to use -- the iPad will show more tweets, and be easier to type on;

      * For email -- again, it will be better and easier to type on than the iPhone;

      * For general writing when I'n not at my desk. Pages is an excellent program; I can't wait to try it on the iPad.

    Well, from his "shut up!" post, we know that Allen Says plans to get one.

    Who collates the "all in one" thread collections? I think we have enough iPad threads that it would help to have them all gathered together.
