Are you Human?

Today I'm very frustrated with the CAPCHA challenge, I keep on getting the wording wrong, the text keep on saying "Are you human?" Hah! I should ask yourself the same question, but hey you're a machine right? What gives you the right to question my human being? Why don't you give me a human words that I can understand instead of hard to read words that only machine can understand?

I left the forum after receiving "You have exceeded the maximum number of registration attempts for this session. Please try again later." Crap. Well I guess that's no forum for human anyway.

  • I hate those that are squashed together with no hope of ever reading them...

Some classic captcha pictures here, just for the hell of it to cheer you up:

    • I don' t really understand technically how this CAPTCHA thing works , but I guess it doesn't make any different between a hard and easy wording, it's just a matter of choosing the CAPTCHA theme. So why they even bother creating an alien wording when no autoboot submission or any robot whatever they called it these days, can't never read that CAPTCHA wording (Even the easy one)? Beware forum owners because you might lose some of the new members OR some quality postings because of this ridiculous capcha challenge
    • Just a quick note for those of you who don't know this.

Those two-word CAPTCHA programs? They're distributed digitising projects. Someone has scanned an image of a document that needs to be converted to text, and one of the words on the CAPTCHA couldn't be identified. So when you get your CAPTCHA, one of the words is already converted, and the other one needs to be. (You can't tell which one.) So by filling in the CAPTCHA, you convert one more word of text that the OCR can't, and help train the OCR to convert it next time.

Oh, except that some people have just randomly copied the two-word line-through-the-middle format without having any clue why it was being used.

This has nothing to do with the price of coffee, but you know what? The OP is right. I have beads of sweat on my face when I fill out some long order form or whatever and get to the bottom and see this crap.

I mean, sometimes I honestly cannot read it. I have no clue what to type. If I refresh the page, all the filled in information goes away, so I am stuck with sitting there trying to figure out what I am looking at so that I am able to type it.

This anti-spam bot thing is so good sometimes, even humans can't make it past and sign up.

But I am guilty of employing this system in my forums as well, as my forums started getting gang raped by spam bots. So, CAPCHA... a necessary evil. Great post OP and good point!

    • Firefox also has a plugin to remember
forms information if it bombs - it's
      called Lazarus :

      addons (dot) mozilla (dot) org/en-US/firefox/addon/6984

It has saved me many times

Make sure you unckeck the password save though.

  • I was human, until too many indecipherable capchas turned me into a mindless zombie.

  • Have you ever considered that you are not human? How do we know? You have no avatar picture showing a human resemblance. Maybe you're a computer program that travels the web randomly creating forum identities and posting tales of woe.

  • I'm a nanomachine created by Zor, dependants of VeX34. VeX34 is a galaxy made of 63 planets and 3 solar systems with double suns, gazillion of lightyears away for humans but a mere few millioseconds for us machines.

Our race has been decimated to the extent that many of us are now living on this planet you call earth. We created CAPCHAs to annoy the living daylight out of users like you and since we can manipulate the input typed by human fingers we can play with you as long as we want.

So be warned, we are lurking...

    • I hate to be a nit picker but we only have 62 planets. Remember that they plutoed Romcas last year

Also, now that you have spilled the beans on the plans you have to turn in your secret decoder ring.

  • I always thought there was an other-worldly resemblance between cyberchick and Matt, if those are even your real names! How many fingers do you have? Show me your hands!

    • Speaking of fingers and finger pointing.

Look who is holding a statue of one of our Imperial Governors and passing him off as a small dog.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

You too need to turn in your ring.
    • Hands, what hands??? Perhaps you human could show me the code for the face that pokes the tongue - I think you humans call this "being cheeky."

  • Capcha is not 100% invulnerable. I have many directories that get spammed through automated methods despite capcha.
  • Nice one, Sparhawke, Dennis, Monika & Matt! :-D

    • I'm glad I'm not the only one who is finding the Captcha codes more and more difficult to read! I think my current record is 10 attempts- after that I gave up!
  • Captchas are an absolute time waster. I hate them !!

    • Hate them? Well, we are the ones to be blamed as we started it...
  • 0110100110101001000011101010101, translation, yes I am human.

Dislike CAPTCHA's, usually get it right by the third go after much frustration.

  • Google has some of the worst captchas around, many times it just won't register even if you take the time to read all those characters carefully and type them in, or perhaps those characters are so hard to read you don't even know if you're looking at a '1', 'i', 'L', 'l' or 'I' ?? lol....
  • capthas are a pain but its the only way to stop bots

      But alas...

  • I hate them also...... Especially when you write a long message or whatever and you get the code wrong and it just erases everything you just spent your time thinking about from the website.

Those codes can make a simple two minute email registration last ten minutes

ARE YOU HUMAN!!? WHO ELSE SPENDS THIER TIME ON THESE WEBSITES?? SURE NOT BEARS
  • It would be nice if I just had to prove I was human by being close to the CAPCHA code...so long as I entered something reasonable close, that's really enough. I mean how many bots can get 5 out of the 7 letters right (and does it have to be THAT unreadable?).
  • Ive experienced this too... actually just this week I was on Ticketmaster buying Alicia Keys tickets and I got the Captcha wrong twice.. so annoying... the words were nearly impossible to read on both my first and second try.

Can computers spam bots oit there really read these things if the words are too clear?? I mean come on.
  • ARRRRGH Stupid Capcha
  • Sometimes I thought that Captcha decoder program is better than human itself. These programs can read the Captcha but humans can't!

    • I'll give a captcha two chances - if it asks "are you human" I sigh "guess not" and move on to something else.

When it comes to captcha, I discourage easily.
  • The person who came up with these captcha codes must have been smoking pot... some make no sense at all.
  • Some CAPCHA's are impossible to read! I've literally entered in the same characters 10 times for some of these. I understand that they shouldn't adopt a standard that can be possibly hacked, but they should at least think more about people's eyes.
