Are you getting the best from your content writer?

I've never found much use for semi-colons.

I mean.. What's the point of something that is only
50% of what it could be?

Surely it's much better to shove something where
there's lots of space?

I hate semicolons - always have

I use a dash instead - it's a personal preference. (like that!)

  Semi colon is usually for a short pause but like Tiffany, i too am not fond of using semi colons, and instead prefer to use a dash(-)

  For those of you who think a simple ";" is useless, pick up your favourite novel, read 50 pages, count how many times a ";" appears and then come back and tell me the author of your favourite book is a moron.

Nobody's a moron either way - you seem a little annoyed by this, but to me - I was just letting you know since you made it sound as if content writers aren't doing their job unless they use semicolons.

There's two different kinds of writing - "proper" writing and online writing for the masses, which can be done with a dash!

Methinks someone wishes to stir some controversy in
the hope that their signature might get noticed.

Implying people may be moronic isn't a great way to
make friends or to encourage people to enter into a
business relationship.

I like my writers to be flexible, responsive, creative
and not pedantic.

If you the grammar police weren't so far up their own
colons they may notice that the intent of any content
is to influence the reader and that can be done both
within and outside the rules.

A simple test is to see where the period goes. It might be correct using British English, but not using American English, and as most of my clients expect American English, then they would have "content gurus."

As a proper writer, if you wish to use that term, I expected my editor and proof reader at the publishing house to make the necessary changes.

We will put colons and semi colons in our ebooks and articles when they are relevant, but again it depends on the brief from the client.

To say Tiff is not a writer is like saying John Reese isn't a guru.

Well, I'm siding with Tiffany on this! I am one of those "online" writers who like to use the "-". And, I am one of the majority of people online who would far rather read something written by someone like Tiffany who write for people - not for how the books say it needs to be written.

At the end of the day, it is the quality of the content that matters - and I for one can attest to how great Tiffany's content is. I would pay 10X the amount for something I know she wrote, (or anyone else who writes great content) compared to something written by someone who is more concerned about where a semi-colon goes than what is being written!

Just my two cents....
