I had a post going looking for reviewers of a product I am about to launch and all of a sudden..I can't find it..anywhere...At first I thought i just fell off the first page but its not on the first - fifth pages..if it got deleted wouldnt I have gotten some sort of notice about it? I'm so confused with whats going on right now..

It was probably considered self-promotion. No, you don't get notified when your threads are deleted.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

Your post was promotional, and also encourages something that has gotten too common lately and is not helpful. Specifically, threads which benefit ONLY the original poster.

As far as your "conundrum"... that's imagined. Lots of products launch without reviews or testimonials at the start. If you want reviews, ask for them in the review section. And be specific about who you offer copies to, or you'll be giving out stuff to people who will do nothing with it but pirate it.

Keep in mind that sometimes threads accidentally get deleted. Happened to me twice, but I contacted the support team and they told me it was an accident and that I could post it again. And given the huge number of threads being posted here daily and just a few moderators, I think its understandable that once in a while it happens.

So if your not sure if you were breaking any rules of the forum, just contact the support and see if it was accidentally deleted, so you can post it again.

      Satrap,

That's not what happened in this case, but it does happen. That said, on behalf of moderators everywhere...

Thank you for being aware of that and making others more aware. It is appreciated.

Thanks for the advice Paul. I'll be more careful with my future posts and make sure that they offer some value to the forum rather than just benefiting myself and the 5 reviewees.

And thanks for the heads up Satrap. I'll keep that in mind for future posts.

      By the way...

One reason you don't get specific notifications is that most people do NOT respond the way you did here. They argue, call names, and work themselves up into a frenzy, ending with allegations of the mods being a bunch of power-hungry censors, with egos the size of Texas and brains the size of walnuts.

You'd be surprised at how often people get a temporary ban because they turned some trivial housekeeping deletion into a personal attack on a moderator.

Asking the folks at the help desk what happened will usually NOT get you an answer, other than, "I don't know." Don't waste their time with these questions, since they're usually not the ones who deleted the posts.

Another reason for the lack of notifications is the time involved. As Satrap mentioned, there are a lot fewer full-fledged moderators than members. We're volunteers. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm not going to spend my entire day telling adults why their posts were deleted, especially when they're almost always easy to figure out before they're posted.

Note that this is meant as information, not correction. You handled it well, and that is also appreciated.

The information is greatly appreciated. I have actually never stopped to think about what the job of a moderator entails. Now that I think about it I can understand why a notification isn't sent. The only problem I have with that is the confusion that can occur with someone who has never had a post removed before (like me as far as I know haha). But its something thats necessary I assume so there is no sense in arguing it. Thanks again.
