If there were only one way you could use to generate traffic to your website, What method would you use?
#traffic

PPC, if you can afford it. If you can not, then there are a number of ways, each of which are equally effective/ineffective. And in the long term it would be SEO if you are confident you can beat your competitors.

    PPC is very tricky.

If I had only one method to get traffic I would use articles.

THERE IS NO ONE BEST WAY.

    You're asking the wrong question.

Each niche has its own preferred ways and each person has their own preferences for how to spend their time and money.

I could tell you writing articles- but if you hate writing you won't do it properly.

100% True... depends on what market you after... do you want paid signups, free referrals, build your list or looking for users to click your PPC ads.

For Travel Websites, I find SEO is best long term

Need to get referrals quick, I use safelists, ad swaps and traffic exchange
Poor quality but can drive 2,000 hits to my site in a couple of hours just my using this method...

Artilces and the way to go but I don't know about PLR packs... quality content written by you about your topic will work best and a few backlinks from high ranking sites and over time you will see the difference....

Social networking depending on your network... I've never had much luck with it and PPC if you know what your doing... other wise your going broke quick. Hope this helps

Exactly. There is no one best way because it all depends on the individual.

With that said, it's critical to choose ONE method and then stick with it until you've mastered it. You don't want to jump from one method to the next because you'll get minimal results that way.

I'll say it again because it's worth repeating... Find a method that really appeals to you and then work on that traffic strategy until you're gaining MORE THAN ENOUGH traffic and sales from it!

Then, if you want, you can choose another traffic method and stick with it so you'll be making EVEN MORE traffic and sales.

For me its article marketing. I love article marketing because it has sort of a residual affect. I write the article once and can get traffic from it for years to come. I wrote articles for one particular affiliate product over 2 years ago. I haven't written any articles since then and I still get sales on that product every month.

It really depends on you and what you enjoy doing. If you don't like writing articles then article marketing probably won't work for you.

Articles by far. Articles to a squeeze page, in my opinion, is the best internet marketing strategy out there. If they like the article, they click the link. If they liked the article and clicked the link, they'll opt in. There's no better way to convert in my view.

In my view - it's one of the worst ways there is. It's almost impossible to get an accurate idea of ROI - and you can spend a lot of time putting out a lot of articles and still have no idea of what the effect will be and if you'll make any money or how much. Very bad business if you're serious.

But that's why I say - there's no one answer for everyone. You like that so it's cool for you. I do it but no way would it be my first or only choice.

    I'd create a responsive list...

This is easier said than done, of course. :-) However, with a list, you've created the gift that keeps on giving.

While creating a list takes ongoing time and effort, that effort is repaid many times over.

Nothing can replace a list, as a source of traffic and income. Few Internet marketers use lists well. If you can get the knack you have power. :-)

Isn't that a chicken and egg situation?

The question was how to get traffic and having a list requires that you got the traffic in the first place in order to build the list.

This whole subject is so subjective that it's a classic example of why newbies struggle to get traffic - it's easy and there are lots of ways, but if your mentality is such that you're looking for 'the best' way - you'll never do anything because the questions can never be answered in a generic way that suits everyone.

ok im new to article marketing, but maybe i got a little lucky on my first submit. I used google insights and trends to find niche. Then, carefully crafted article and it landed on first page of google twice in two different articles. But, my traffic is all but minimal. I have not made a single cent through adsense or clickbank. All I want is a penny to show that at least something generates income. I will not do PPC until i notice at least a little cash flow from other marketing tactics. What am I doing wrong? And, does adsense really pay?

I can't tell you my best way for getting traffic, buy my favourite has to be articles (well outsourcing articles) I actually hire someone to write me articles related to my niche that are keyword rich then I also outsoure the submission process by using an article directory submitter.

These methods have seen a huge rise in targted traffic to my websites.

Bets of luck, which ever methods you choose!

I am still at work mastering the art of traffic, but what I am finding out is that building a site correctly in the first place is absolutely key, and if you absolutely nail the keywords and know how to use them on your site, your site will organically attract killer placement with Google and get traffic.
I also tried some ads on Facebook recently, one for my art site. I got 255 clicks to my site in less than 50 minutes...not too shabby. Just wish I had lowered my daily budget cause it was gone in an hour! If you try these ads, for sure start with a low daily budget, but keep the ad running...you can increase your budget for more clicks if sales are happening.
Don't know if you have ever tried Magic List Bot for traffic, but it rocks.

One thing that might help is if you understand what you mean by traffic.

    Traffic is people.

Targeted traffic are people who might be interested in your offer.

People are much less mystical than this term "traffic."

People do things. They drive to work. They listen to the radio on the way to work. They see billboards on the freeway. They sneak visits to certain web-sites when they should be working. They watch TV at night. They go out to dinner. They subscribe to magazines.

The people who are most likely to be interested in your offer do things a little differently than most people.

That difference is your key. If you are selling bodybuilding supplements, your people are into bodybuilding. They read a particular magazine. They hang out in gyms. They visit GNC or some other supplement store. They buy certain things.

Once you understand what your people do that is different than what everyone does (or you have an offer that would be of interest to almost anyone), then you know where your people are currently.

Your job is to move them from where they are to where you want them to be (ie: your web-site).

So as Andy Henry said... it's different for every market. You can reach conservative political enthusiasts by advertising on the Rush Limbaugh show. You can reach bodybuilders by buying flyers to stuff into orders for Creatine that are being shipped by a competitor to their buyers. You can also reach them by advertising in the major magazine for bodybuilders.

If you want to focus only on people who are already online (a good idea for an online business), then you ask yourself where your people are currently hanging out online. Are their websites, blogs and forums where they hang out. Advertise there... or blog comment there... or get involved in those forums... or advertise in those newsletters.

    In summary:

    1. Figure out where your people are currently hanging out.

    2. Itemize the ways to get your message to them in that place.

    3. Send the message which directs them to your web-site.

    Traffic is people!

I think this is the most important point here. If you don't know which people you are trying to attract, just any traffic is useless. You also have to know those people are actually likely to buy not just browse.

The least amount of work and the simplest is basically the most advanced .

You need not create traffic as it's already there , You should just find a way to redirect it to your site .

Community Marketing is by far the best , As the people in these forums are already obsessed with your niche , And thousands of people go through the threads , A good example is this forum .

Comment sniper is also very very good at getting thousands of hits if you set it to remind of every new blog post made by authorities in that nich , Don't spam though .

Video articles are way better than the regular article marketing , As people love watching videos & youtube is ranked no.3 , And so it's easier to get traffic from there using small passages of PLR articles and some free pics .

And finally in my opinion , The laziest & the best option of getting huge amounts of traffic & sales (If you have a product) is through Joint Ventures ,And to make it even simpler , Find a JV broker , You're gonna give a big sum of the money , But you're basically not paying anything out of your pocket and doing no effort .

But basically if your product is low value , Whatever you do , Nothing will work .

If your product is very high value , You may not do much , And the word of mouth alone can get you lots of traffic , Thats why giving the highest value is what you should concentrate about !

No one has given just one best way to get traffic yet even though that's the question you asked as your thread title.

A few have said, "If I had to, then this would be it"
but no one has really just come right out on a limb

and boldly claimed the one best way that beats all the others.

    Can I blame them?

    Nah, of course not.

They've got enough experience to know
there are thousands of ways to get traffic.

    However, through my unique experiences
of testing and tracking through many niches
over the last few years online,

I've discovered the one and only best way to get traffic
which outperforms all the others and beats the pants off
even combinations of all the other ways, every time, without exception.

In fact, I'll be so bold to say, if you aren't getting traffic with this one way,
then you will fail in business. Period.

So what is the one best way to get traffic?

Fewer than one in one hundred thousand internet marketers know.

    Ready?

    Okay, here it is.

The one and only best way to get traffic will always be:

    Profitably.

    Don't ever forget it.

Forum posting has been good for me on the free side. After reading this thread am definitely going to start outsourcing article writing and submission. On the paid side, cheap ppc by using content network on yahoo ppc has been good. Just create lots of ads that feature the keyword. Probably 2 -3 ads per high traffic keyword. Set bid to under 0.09. Most ads won't get many clicks but 1 out of ten will rise to the top and get heaps of cheap clicks!

Well... Since you did not define a budget. I'd buy all the advertising spots for the entire NCAA Basketball tournament. That should get you a few visitors.

Otherwise, you need to figure out where your niche hangs out. Are they reading articles, are they watching videos, are they hanging out in Facebook? Then you need to be in those spots.

You also never mentioned wanting targeted traffic, so you could just be filling up all the video sites with videos of cute girls, and saying visit here to see more hot ladies FREE. You will have lots of useless traffic.

Once again, since you want targeted traffic, you are going to need to try many of these techniques, and find out where your traffic comes from, then build up those methods to maximize your traffic.

If you are even half as cool as CDarkLock, you have no worries, the groupies will be all over your site!!!

Dont know the 'best' way - but the 'fastest way' for me would be PPC - almost instant traffic - but extremely costly if done wrong!

So...you just gotta make sure you have a good system to evaluate your target market, keywords, spend, profitability etc - BEFORE setting up your campaigns.

There are a ton, but it all depends on the market. Paid stuff like PPC can get very expensive if you don't know what you are doing.

If you are just starting out, you should probably stick with the free stuff , like article and video marketing. Once you start making some money you can branch out into the paid stuff.

The advantage of SEO is that you have to put in some work at first and you may not see instant results but when you are ranked you get all of your traffic on auto pilot and don't have to worry about Google slaps and don't have to check your PPC stats the whole day.
