Another Question If I May...

In the business (IM) world we talk about giving folks the tools to create their business rather than the biz itself. Analogy here to giving the bloke a fishing rod to do his own fishing rather than just the fish for lunch...

However I must confess its been my experience over the last several years that most people don't particularly want the fishing rod, they not only want the fish, they also want it cooked and served for them as well.

What in your experience serves folks (especially those just starting online) better

A complete biz in a box where everything is there just to upload to your domain, or the tools to learn how to do it from scratch yourself.

Thanks
Kim

    Wonderful question, Kim.

I lean towards giving them the fishing rod and teaching them how to fish. But I know most people want the easy option...

The challenge with giving them "biz in a box" option is that that's not the end of the story. They need to know how to manage and promote their new business, otherwise they have no traffic and no income, and have no business to speak of.

It's not what people want to hear. Just visit the WSO for evidence -- people BUY the "everything, don't need to do anything" option. :-)

    Hi Kim

Theoretically the whole idea of a business in a box is very attractive. Unfortunately the reality is that one person's BIAB is another's "Waste of money" because it does not work for them and make them rich.

So the answer to your question is to provide tools to do the job. Further to this. If you don't know how to do something, ask a man/woman who does. Outsource that bit.

    All the Best

Over the years I have provided both educational products to teach people the "how to" as well as I've provided the actual tool to get it done. Both are viable models and really serve two different types of customers. Yet in both cases only a tiny percentage ever really do anything. Tool or no tool. It's like most people are comfortable with the IDEA of time and financial freedom but very uncomfortable putting the "work" back into "work from home" or "work for yourself."

It is a good analogy, the rod or the fish, or WWJD, suppose he would have said, lets give them fishing rods instead of five loaves and a few fishes, how many would have eaten that day, I wonder, it sounds good really it does, but would you really give a starving man a fishing rod, or a fish, and a fishing rod,

I personally subscribe to the pay it forward, glass half full, and yes, there is a santa claus, but in reality, on average it is human nature to want it all done for you with no work required, so yes, you are right, most people will not do what it takes to become successful, spending countless hours blogging, just to make a few bucks seems like a poor exchange, but if you can do that ten times a day then you can take those few bucks and turn them into more...

Sometimes that is all it takes is being willing to do that little bit of extra work that can put you over the top...

    I'm dying to say it...

    I gotta say it..

I'm just fishing for information lol

Seriously though I agree with you. The trouble with a BIAB is that many folks don't realise they still have to work round it.

Maybe the best solution is to offer both. i.e the tools of the trade and the outlines of a biz

    Thanks for responding
    Kim

    Edit

Tim I think I just agreed with what you said lol
