I think liam has mentioned this on this thread, but I just have to say a couple of things about this great tool. I just came across this tool a couple of days ago by accident, and I was surprised that I have never heard anyone talk about it on WF, despite all the common questions about a good free article submission tool.

Its called the Article Submission Helper
Its a FREE article submission software, which gives you the options of submitting totally automatic or semi automatic.

It has a couple of hundred article directories all with their PRs and you can add or delete anyone.

One of the coolest feature of it is the automatic registration. You know how long it takes to manually sign up for a couple of hundred directories?
Yeah you can use form filling softwares, but you still have to open each site manually, but with this thing, you just fill the form(your information), and it automatically registers you with directories you want. It also allows you to manually do that as well

Its a great article submitter with lots of cool time saving features. Although its totally free, I honestly think it works way better and has much more (useful) features than any of those expensive article submitters.

I agree with Irfanview, though it is strictly really for editing screenshots I find there is no equal

I haven't seen anyone mention Thunderbird for email. I use it to manage multiple accounts in one place and still keep things separated.

Willmaster.com offers some excellent free software mixed in with the paid products. The library on the site has tons of little tricks and effects, usually with source code so you can copy and paste into your own sites. The newsletter does cost an email, but the signal to noise ratio is off the charts.

Blender is great for creating 3-d pictures and logos, etc. Only problem for me was that it was like being dropped into the control panel of a ship or submarine. The tutorials were confusing and I made some neat objects, with no way to duplicate what I did.

So the learning curve is high...unless someone has created some killer tutorials.

I couldn't leave this thread without adding something back so I looked over my tool chest to see what I didn't see here. These are some that I've found useful (most are Firefox add ons):
Cool Previews- pops up a little window when you hover on link so you don't have to open another page/tab- good for quicky looking at a page.
SEO tool- when searching google it will show complete SEO info on Googles return searchs (it's an opt-in).
ReminderFox- Calendar, scheduler, to-do list
MozBackup- Backs up all your Firefox bookmarks, passwords etc. Also does Thunderbird email folders, addresses, and accounts.

Have I missed Audacity? That should certainly be on the list.

CCleaner is very useful too.

Another one I'd add is TextPad - not strictly free, but shareware that nags, but doesn't ever absolutley require payment.
