Frustrated with one web host. Need your advice in finding another RELIABLE host.

After carefully shopping around for a web host, I opted for justhost.com last week on Thursday or Friday.

Since that time, I regret that decision and am on the verge of requesting a refund.

First, they claimed that my payment from PayPal didn't go through. After an email from me, they reconsidered or rechecked and discovered that it did go through after all.

They provided a username and a password and included an address.
I could not gain access after a few attempts and emailed them about it. They then sent another email that included the same information, which again did not work.

I am running short of patience and anticipate requesting a refund.

Also want to add that I have in recent years used another host named Aplus and was satisfied with them, but wish to use someone else for a change. I've also tried Hostgator, which didn't work out, and I had to get a refund.

Now I am considering Bluehost.com.

I guess I'm still a newbie regarding web hosts. Are there any web hosts that are reliable and reasonably priced that you know about?

I'm sure that this question has come up before. All I want right now is a landing page. I already have a domain and a report.

I wouldn't recommend Go Daddy especially the new european organisation. Whilst they're good if your on a tight budget, you get what you pay for. Not only is it messy with a sloppy interface, but transferring your sight once your in the financial position to can be very difficult. jusone marketing all the way for me its cheap and uber reliable.

Biggest two names for that kind of hosting will be hostgator and godaddy.
If your looking for a dedicated box then I would suggest a smaller company there are plenty out there. I always had issues with hostgator and godaddy when it came to a dedicated box plus the price was always very high

    HostGator.

If you go wrong with that then I'll bite my tongue.

An alternative to that would be iWeb.com

I have been with a lot of web hosts (iweb, godaddy, hostgator, lunarpages) and I've been the most happier with HG. Their support is UNBELIEVABLE!

The good host providers I would recommend are
      -bluehost
      -hostmonster
      -hostgator
      -godaddy

If you use any of these, you should not have any problems. I personally use hostmonster. The only thing to keep in mind is do not register your domains and buy your hosting with the same company. You could register your domains with namecheap.com or godaddy.com.

      Hope this helps.

This is intriguing. Where could the "tech-challenged" among us go to get instruction to "even think about" doing something like this? Any info links on the web? Anybody....?

How'd yo do that? I've got a ton of left over parts/pieces that I could do that with - I guess as long as your ISP doesn't mind?

I could never get a full screen in building my website, There was just a quarter or maybe half showing. I couldn't get further and finally gave up. Maybe the fact that they use Linux has something to do with it. I don't know.

With Aplus.net, I was able to start work on my site immediately with sitebuilder.

  • I highly recommend Bluehost. For one thing, you get a real, live, American person who knows what the hell they're talking about when you call for support. (No offense to non-Americans, but it steams me when I talk to some poor underpaid foreigner who doesn't know much and has to bump me up to his American boss. Such a waste of everybody's time...)

It's a great value, too. For $14.99 a month you get a unique IP, security certificate, high performance server, and basically unlimited bandwidth and storage. If you need more than the ten domains (or whatever it is) they give you, they'll bump you up in seconds and for very reasonable cost. I've got a limit of 1,000 domains there right now. It's sweet.

Man ain't that the truth, I thought they were doing well, other than I seemed to have to call them a lot. In ten years I had never had a need to call a hosting company and with them it was EOW. Then I'd ask a question, do something based on the answer and then find I had been given the wrong answer! They also don't support a script I am thinking of using, so I am looking for at least one other host for that or DS with support (I am no tech) if I could find one for a reasonable price and reasonable power, bandwidth and HD space, that didn't use a NAT firewall, had dedicated IPs and was reasonably secure.

      (don't want much. Huh?)

I have had a great long term experience with Godaddy.

    Their support is absolutely excellent.

Also their 1 click hosting connection installs of open source scripts like WordPress rock!

For 99% of sites they are great, the only problem is if you need really advanced services.

For instance they do not have allot of PHP libraries enabled that some more advanced video scripts require.

I actually have a server with JustHost and was attracted as many are because of their pricing. Shared hosting starts at $3.45/month. Their hosting is standard and IMO very good for the price. Their marketing also resembles very closely if not bordering on theft of HostGator.

Their support is not pinnacle but also I haven't had a problem with the e-mail response. Live support is close to useless, they just refer you to e-mail support. Also when you e-mail you have to ask for a higher level support for most things.

I also have a server at HostGator and their support is far better. I've been with them a looooooong time and remember when there support wasn't so good. Just growing pains for a new hosting company.

If you can afford it go with HostGator it'll save you headaches especially if you are new to the IM game.

    Good Luck!

You posted earlier about demanding a hosting refund - claiming they "stole" your domain

        http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...main-name.html

Now you are talking about refunding another host? Looking at the list that "didn't work" I think it's time you got over being a newbie about hosting and learned about it. Several you mention, like hostgator, are excellent and if none are working for you - maybe the problem isn't the hosting.

Not trying to be rude - but hosting is just a tool that you learn to use and work with. I know hostgator has tons of tutorial and videos to help you through the process. They also have excellent support.

I've been using Hostgator for the last 2-3 months and I have to say their support is the best I've ever seen, my previous host (Bravenet) never got back to me without days and days of waiting for a reply. I was with them for 3 years I don't know why I lasted so long, but now with Hostgator I'm thrilled, they are so friendly and know what they are talking about and literally if I don't know how to do something they do it for me for free.

I'm going to reiterate what many have said here... I LOVE Hostgator. I live in South Africa, where we are charged roughly between $10-$15 hosting PER site with only a gig or two worth of bandwidth.

When I found Hostgator roughly about three years ago, they were god-sent. I haven't looked back since. I've always had excellent service from them. Whenever I have a problem or need something fixed, they are quick to come to the rescue.

The other day I needed to get something fixed due to my thumbnails not showing on my website, I had no idea what the problem was, the consultant did all the research and got it working for me in no-time.

They really ARE fantastic Yay, I love them!

I do need to say, however, I once had a site which crashed from all of the traffic. As soon as I noticed, I went online and they assisted me to fix the problem. It needed some sort of WP plugin to avoid that problem. Ever since then I've been using that plugin and haven't had a problem yet.

Except the OP in his original post said

I've also tried Hostgator, which didn't work out, and I had to get a refund.
So that's at least two "refund requests" from hosting that others use with no problem.

The point is - you must understand what the host provides and how to best use the service. If you have unrealistic expectations of what a host will do for you, you will be disappointed no matter how good the hosting is.

Just be a little careful when you pick your hosting package. Just Host will take the free domain name you have picked for your site back, And whilst some of the bigger organisations are cheap, you really do get what you pay for. A lot of the time an un reliable, messy service, which is difficult to transfer once you site is established. If your looking to make money online then look to spend that little bit more for your package, even if its only for piece of mind. If your only hosting something thhat your messing around with or promoting a hobby and such, then go for the cheaper option.

If you did a search on customer reviews of Justhost.com, you would find a myriad of negative reviews. The only positive reviews come from AFFILIATES seeking an affiliate commission. I would not suggest ANY IMer who is serious about IM to use Justhost as an option.

In terms of using Godaddy as a webhosting company, a THOUSAND TIMES NO! They are a great registrar but a terrible hosting company for Internet Marketers. I cannot tell you how many times we had to advise customers to switch from Godaddy to other hosting companies to get scripts to work.

Here are the companies I use and have been using for years.

Hostgator - I've been with these guys since 2006 and have only had (1) instance in which sites were down. Currently, I probably have about 100 sites with Hostgator. IMHO their customer service is great and they are always working to improve. As a IM you can't go wrong with these guys.

BlueHost - If I classify Hostgator as great, I'd give BlueHost as a good hosting company. I host a number of sites with them and have not had an issue.

Hostmonster - This is another company that I use and have had no problems with them.

I would be amazed if you used any of these companies and had an issue that they couldn't resolve in an expedient manner.

Stay away from these webhosting companies...

    Justhost
    Powweb
    Godaddy
    Yahoo
    Datapacket

    Here are some webhosting NEVERS...

(1). Never commingle your hosting and your domain name registrar, NEVER! Use two different companies, one for for hosting and one for your domain.
(2). Never go for the FREE domain names offered by any company. If you read the SMALL PRINT most of them OWN the domain name and not you. If you decide to leave their company, they KEEP the domain name.
(3). Never commit to any webhosting company without checking with the Warriors FIRST! Their perspectives and insights can save you a lot of heart ache.
(4). Never believe those webhosting review companies listed on the first page of Google; 99.99% of those companies are farm affiliates. They resort to tactics such as false reviews, cookie stuffing and other Blak-H-A-T tactics to get the sale.
(5). Never put your trust in webhosting resellers, especially when you are just starting off. If these guys fail to pay their hosting bill and their account is shutdown, your site, or all of your sites will be shutdown and tagged with the infamous, "Account Expired" tag. And their is nothing you can do barring begging to pay the reseller's bill with the hosting company.

Things to look for in a GOOD webhosting company....

(a). If you are not a IT Techie, I would advise selecting a company that uses cPanel as their control panel. It is one of the most intuitive control panels on the market and your learning curve will be extremely short.

(b). A webhosting company with an actual 24/7 customer support service. The best way to test that requirement is for you to call the potential webhosting company at off hours and see if they answer.

    One more thing for newbies.

If you buy your domains at Godaddy, always go to Fatwalet.com - Money Resources and Information. This website is for sale! and get a promo code. That way your domains will only cost you $7.49. (Not an Affliate link),

    talking about GoDaddy
    ...
I saw some big-name gurus, like Mike Filsaime, recommend to stay away from it
because this host has given them lots of problems
therefore they don't use it anymore

How do you think - do these big names lie?

    Hi
I've gone to a dedicated server with this hosting company I've been dealing with - very expensive as far as I can tell and so far - nothing but constant trouble. The first reason for going to a dedicated server - it was the only way to keep an error message from showing up on all of my websites. The second reason - I'm needing a dedicated server to handle the volume of sites and traffic for the new project I'm launching because it will require thousands of sites.

I really think I've got to ditch this current hosting company - even though it was recommended by Mike Filsaime and Michael Cheney and find a better alternative.

Any ideas on who to go with? I need good support and unlimited bandwidth etc.

    Thanks

I am at Justhost since 2 months but I will request refund tomorrow.

Their servers have been down 3 times in 10 days, 2 times in the last 36 hours, and each time they say the server xxx had a hardware problem, we are moving to a new server yyy, and each time it's the same server that is done, while they previously said that they already have moved.

    They are just not serious

I'd like to update my previous post about JustHost. JustHost is just awful. I got 1 year of free hosting with them from Template Monster. I just gave it back.

I had put a site up for sale and when I went to check the auction my server was down again for the second time in 2 weeks. Live chat just told me to e-mail. By then the auction will be over.

The first 3 months were fine but unless you can deal with 3 hours of downtime on a regular basis go with HostGator.

To be honest, hostgator have terrible support that passes you around and never fixes the problems. As the company grows, the problem is going to get bigger. I would opt to find a smaller company who can deal with your requests unlike godaddy and hostgator.

AGREED! I've noticed that as well. Apparently they've more than doubled their staff in the last year alone. That's why I moved all my smaller sites over to FusionHost

All their staff have been there years so you get better support as a result.

    My personal recommendation is hawkhost
Besides being cheap its extremely robust and the plans are realistic, they offer a 40% discount if paid annually (something like that)

Whatever you do NEVER choose Godaddy!

Hostgator have been my number one choice for around 5 or 6 years now, great tech support and customer service.

I'm surprised more people don't self-host. A much higher % of people have 'always on' Internet connections these days, and who doesn't have an old 'retired' PC in the closet gathering dust?
With the software and various online tutorials it has become really quick and easy to setup your own home web server, and it can cost you zero, since you'll probably have sufficient bandwidth on your ISP account to handle the traffic for a small to medium website.

I love Hostgator;and although I have never used them,BlueHost has been getting lot's of good word of mouth as well. I love Godaddy for domains and have registered roughly 70 domain's through them, but have never used them for hosting.

Quite frankly as great as they are for domains, the feedback I get on their hosting really scares me.
Also 1 and 1 blows chunks,I would stay away from them!

Their basic plan is $3.95 per month.
But today they have a great deal.
They offer one year hosting for $10!
Only for today and only for the first 500 accounts.

hostgator.com also have a great deal today. -50% OFF
It expires in 11 Hours so you'd better hurry.

I was using JustHost, but I switched to Bluehost. I am happier :-)
