Key word domain, or brand?

Hello everyone

What is your opinion on the best SEO and building a following:

A new website domain name using a combination of good keywords

Or

Start using a brand name now to build it, and have your good keywords in title areas of page - does this have a lot less SE power than the above?

Of course no one will look for my chosen brand name, so is it better to build business with domain names that have good keyworks in, and begin to build a brand within the page?

Many thanks

    Don't use brandnames.
You might get slapped with copyright crap.

Branding takes a lots of patience and very deep pockets, sounds nice, but..

And brand names are very risky.

IMO a keyword domain will help in the SERPs and PPC campaigns as people are more likely to click on the keywords.

Most of all it depends on what your plan with the brand is.

If you are serious about building a brand, then I would prioritize this over kw domains.

BTW: it is a myth that building a brand takes deep pockets.

Building a brand is more about consistency in displaying it all the time and in all your business contexts.

What takes deep pockets is to get brand recognition in a huge percentage of population. But that is not necessarily the goal of all brands.

Some brands might be happy with a very small part of population recognizing their name, as long as those are the prospects of that specific business.

Take Incansoft for example, Big Mike's Software business. I'm sure they did not spend 50 Millions on TV ads. I'm sure 99.99% of the population have never heard of them. But for many in the WF they are a recognized brand name.

Building a stand alone brand, by the way, can make it easier to sell your business to new owners in the feature.

Businesses who rely 100% on a persons name are hard to sell.

Unless the *brand* is yours. Then by all means use it.

By using targeted copy, key words/phrases, etc. (good seo) you can generate traffic to a brand. Then the brand AND traffic are growing.

I think your decision should also consider the objective of generating traffic. Are you being informative or selling a product or what?

In my case I've gone the route of brand building --provide good content and the traffic will find you, via search engines.

      Success,
      Sam

The answer to your question is completely dependent upon what it is you're trying to build.

If you're putting up sites that target a certain niche and you're monetizing them, then absolutely go with a keyword domain.

If you're looking to brand yourself as a company that offers specific goods or services to a specific community, then a branded name is the way to go.
