My PayPal account is in the UK, and for the past 6 years we have used it to run our business out of China and Hong Kong. We have travelled to various countries in that time and no problems with the account.

On Friday we moved back to the UK, and yesterday was the first day I could get my computer connected to the internet.

I saw a WSO which I wanted to buy, and bought. Immediately, my PayPal account is limited because they think someone might have hacked it.

I did all the necessary things PayPal asked and in less than 5 mins the limited restrictions were lifted.

However, they are still checking the purchase as they are reviewing it.

So for 6 years I can move around China/Hong Kong/Thailand/UK/USA but as soon as we move back to the UK, they think my account has been hacked.

Go figure PayPal.

At least I know the seller of the wso and was able to talk to them on Skype while Paypal does whatever Paypal does.

If you have a buyer and then find that PayPal is reviewing it, there might be some reason, don't assume it is someone trying to get something for nothing.

Just one of the many reasons I'm glad I never leave NJ.

Sorry to hear about all this nonsense Bev, but I guess it's the price we
have to pay for dealing with PayPal.

    Hope everything eventually settles down.

    Oh, and welcome home.

I had the same with my Credit Card.

Did not use it for a few months and then started to use it and one day it stopped working so I rang the bank and got the same sort of response.

This tells me that it may not be Paypal but a regulation which could be Patriot act stuff to me.

    It pops up everywhere.

That's funny! No alarm bells ring in all that traveling, and then BOOM -- you get home and they restrict your account.

I've had a problem with their debit card while traveling -- and that was by car across a few states. I used the card to put gas in the car in my hometown. Four hours later more gas. Four hours further down the road, more gas. Then PP cut it off for suspicious activity. I know I'm a homebody but geeze...

    Cheers,
    Becky

p.s. Happens with my local credit union debit card too (where they call to confirm debits). I don't mind, though. I guess I'd rather have them restrict me for a few minutes or call and confirm debits rather than them taking a nap while someone drained my acct.

Yes, we found it amusing as well.

I have no problem with the account, they wanted me to complete a few things to prove it was me using the account and the limted restriction was immediately lifted.

I wait for them to review the payment made for the wso and that isn't a problem, because I can always send it another way if needed.

Steven, thanks for the welcome home. I half expected problems when in China but didn't get any.

My IP has changed so often it's a wonder they know where I'm checking in from.

Becky, crazy as you say. No red flags before.

    Hey Bev

We had a discussion about this 2 summers ago when I accessed my account from Spain and they limited me because of that.

I remember you describing your story and saying how it hadn't happened to you.

I guess none of us is really immune - it's all systemised, after all.

    Cheers,

    Neil

PayPal can be a law unto itself... I had problems several times back in the summer when travelling in Europe with work. I got one set of restrictions lifted, and 72 hours later they had added more and were returning payments... Took about 10 days to get everything straightened out in the end. It was annoying, but at least it shows they're proactive in security.

AAAAHHHHH! I probably shouldn't post on this thread because I've had so few good experiences with PayPal. I had an account seven years ago but ditched them and just barely got a new account with them about a year ago. It's a necessary evil from my perspective.....

I can see the niche they fill in the financial services industry, but I wish they had a good competitor, since I just don't care for them...

I hope you get it all sorted out.

Ah yes, been there before. Good luck with sorting it out. The only positive I've found after being limited is you rarely get bugged again.
