How Do You Get Off This Guys List?

I signed up at some point to the evoII list - In the process it looks like I was added to every other list that they could possibly have.

Usually not a problem, right? Just unsubscribe...

Not so easy.

In order to unsub from one of the lists you have to logg into a forum that I never signed up for

In order to unsub from another one you have to enter some secret password...what?

Anyone have any luck getting off of any of these lists?

Depending on what email program you are using you can usually label it as spam.. To prevent this I create what I call junk emails. I do use them but if they get overloaded with spam and viruses I'm not too worried about it affecting my comp..

I've done that with some...but others keep creeping through.

As I spent 10 minutes trying to unsub this morning it just started to irritate me more and more. While most people make it easy for you to get off their list, only making you click a link and your done - he has gone through some pretty extensive lengths to keep you on the list.

Can't say I've been on any of those but am
        thankful I'm not =) Nowadays, I've got 3 email
        addresses.

I "upgrade" them to the real address depending
on value provided and leave most of them to
        the secondary address.

I had a dude whose list I wanted to get off
and when nothing worked (unsubbed, emailed
him, helpdesk, the works), I slapped it with
the spam label and mentally blocked out his
        name for good.

Whenever I see anything from that address,
it's either in junk mail or Terminator's on it.

If their using the same email try blocking that, if he's using a common thread in their subject lines (Hey Jeremy - here's your free whatever).

The different email programs have different spam options and you need to look at all what they offer.

This is exactly why I have the junk email to prevent this sort of thing from happening.

Hope something helps you because I do understand how frustrating this really is.

I'm having the same problem with one list, though not the one you mentioned. Some people are just anal orifices. This guy will never sell me anything for precisely that reason.

If you figure it out, let me know how you did it and I'll do the same for you.

I use Windows Mail (formerly known as Outlook Express). I create a rule and all the messages from the offender's eMail address are deleted from server, without me seeing them first.

It's not the same as activating junk option or using a SPAM program - that might filter something I want to see. My method is simple, silent and effective.

    Jeremy,

I'm having the same experience with that particular list. I've unsub'd about
3 times. I only remember signing up once. There's another famous marketer
who's doing the same thing. It's kinda funny, in some way, because I've
unsub'd probably half a dozen times, and he keeps appearing in my inbox.

Haven't decided on a course of action, yet.

OH, I've decided on a course of action...

I'm going to out the product and list to my subscribers and let them know of my experience.

I'm sure it won't make me very popular, but ehhh...I don't care.

Yeah, I've sent some messages to the help desk...no response

The worst part is you have to "log in" to unsub from any of the lists...I don't remember ever joining any of his forums or communities and there is no "lost password" function that I can see.

Horrible way to run a list in my opinion.

I too have had this problem.

My solution is that I use Yahoo mail for all my lists that I join. If they don't allow me to unsubscribe, then like a few other posters mentioned, I hit the "spam" button. It works every time.

Dude, don't waste your time for this staff. You use spam filter and you have alternative e-mails. It will do most of the job. Another spam that you still get just delete. That's what I do. It takesme 1-2 minutes to define e-mails that look like spam and which I don't want to read. I delete them. And then I just read letters what are left.

I realize it is a time suck...But, even knowing that, I don't like the fact that I'm "trapped" into receiving a bunch of email that I don't want and to make matters worse, the email addresses that they come from seem to be multiplying from the same person.

If it is a Aweber account then you can mark that email as Spam - Aweber should take care of it if enough complaints are coming in about that specific account. Otherwise you can create also a account with Spamhaus and send the email to them. I had already the nicest reactions from Spammers because I send to much Spam back .....

A few years ago, there was a guy who lived not far from me here in the Detroit area who was arrested by the feds for being a MASSIVE spammer, i.e. he was sending out millions of emails a DAY.

People were unable to unsubscribe from his lists, so eventually they began fighting back. The local paper here detailed how many thousands of new 'Free' trial subscriptions he got each month to legitimate magazines like 'Time', 'Business Week', 'The Wall Street Journal', etc. The newstory indicated that the post office had a truck delivering 'junk mail' to his house each day.

And this guy was whining in the paper about the amount of time it took him each month to unsubscribe to these things.

His junk mail was somebody's 'justice'.

the list owner maybe spamming.. but could that be possible the owner misconfigure the software or glitch somewhere in the list management software? it is very likely.. maybe the owner has put it on autopilot and never bother to check complaints/unsub request...

click that "SPAM" button.. also take it to the ISP if you have the time to deal with it.. ISPs are very serious about spamming coming out of their networks

      Tom,

That would be Alan Ralsky. He got sent to prison just a few months ago, for stock fraud. Makes me feel just so much sympathy for him over the horrble ordeal he endured getting all that junk mail...

The business of making it difficult to unsubscribe is a good way to get attention from various governments. In Oz, one might look at the case of Wayne Mansfield. The ACMA did not find his behavior amusing.

In the US, the FTC has rules about the hoops one can be made to jump through. While I haven't seen the specific procedures for the list in question, they sound like they might fall afoul of those standards.

It's also a fast track to getting bumped from a web host, list hosting service or ISP, even if the original subscription request was legit.

Bad mojo, all the way around.

      Gary,
If a person is using aweber and doesn't remove, you could always contact aweber support.
Extremely unlikely. Aweber's unsubscribe function works. It's not in the control of the customer.

If they're re-enabling subscriptions after the person unsubscribes, that would very likely get their account closed. That would be... dumb.

There are other well known IMers who make it hard to unsubscribe too.

The only thing that this does is to put them high on my list of people not to deal with.

Hope they have an account like aweber where they pay per subscriber.

A list I'm still trying to get off is one of those old school ones where there is no unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email and you have to reply with "unsubscribe" in the subject line, brings back memories? CAN SPAM violation anyone?

I've replied at least 5 times with unsubscribe in the subject line as directed but it's obviously getting filtered off somewhere else or being redirected to a virtual brick wall somewhere in the ethos of internet space. My solution? Filter straight into the junk folder.

I had this exact problem once, back when I used to participate in safelists.

I sent out a safelist email, and got not one, but THREE autoreplies from people who all had the exact same software that automatically signed people up to their lists. I tried to unsubscribe and it wouldn't let me. I went to the website to see what it was (had I known better then...) and when I tried to exit, the computer acted so slowly I thought it had crashed, and then LITERALLY five minutes later I got a popup that basically said, "Wait! Don't Leave Me! Gimme Ur EMAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!!!!1"

I contacted the owner and said I'd report SPAM on his ass unless I was unsubscribed from all three lists. Fortunately, he listened to me.

I too have a similar problem with Global Resorts Network
who's constantly sending me affiliate promotions.

I labeled it as SPAM, but nothing seems to help, so I just
created a rule to delete this email each time it's delivered
    through my Gmail. Handy.

Holy SH*T you people have a lot of time on your hands...

Jeremy, send me the email you want removed via PM and I will personally see to it. All Pete's lists are AWeber based, so I have NO idea why you are having a problem, bit I would love to know what's going on.

NOT how we run our business, I assure you.

Glenn, I PM'd you my emails...

I also requested you send me your email so that I can forward some of the emails I've received to you so that you can see first hand just how *impossible* in some cases it is to opt-out.

This is not a list builder ... a$$hole comes to mind .

No serious list builder wants someone on their list that does not want to be there .

Profit is the main focus of a list although a lot of people will tell you it is about relationships, and that is important , but if we are honest with ourselves .. yup it's the money :-)

I don't see anyone giving money to someone holding your email hostage .

If I was into betting , I would bet Jeremy figures out a way to terrorize this idiot in the end .

Here is my opinion with this...

If you join html2rss or badrss, I guess this is the cause of your problem. Before you can unsubscribe to these 2 sites which own by evo2. You need to enter your password from these sites, this is a protection for members account.
