Guest Blog Posting?... How effective is it?

O.K. I am testing. I have just incorporated some "Guest Blog" posting capabilities at my blog with a special WP plugin.

I have the ability to charge for posts and also make tempoary limited use coupons for either discounts or enable the post to be completely free...

I have some experience being the "guest" poster on other people s blogs, but this is the first time I am ever accepting posts...

My question is how many people here have blogs where they accept direct guest blog posts?... What rules of engagement do you have for the guest posts?...Do you ever charge for guest posts? have they been effective in getting a steady stream of quality fresh content to you blog?

Thanks
Gavin

I don't know how effective charging would be, but some dedicated readers would be willing to pay. Test it and see.

As for guest posters generally? expect common spammers posting just to get some links of theres displayed on your comment, who won't give 2 hoots about your blog posts. They would just want to get their link on your blog.

You might end up spending alot of time checking and deleting posts due to this.

However test it and see like i said.

Yeah the spammers is why I am going to be charging...and then release some coupon codes that enable discounted posting or to post for FREE... All my guest posts are moderated so I have to physically approve them... I a\have already deleted 8 posts from moderation that did not meet criteria and refunded some payments because their post was not accepted...

I was actually thinking of raisng the price after the free posts coupon is all used up...

I just released a few more uses for the coupon...

I think charging is the best way to get rid of the spammers and time wasters...

Whenever a link is posted to my blog the site within the link is usually indexed in minutes so there is definite value in being a guest blogger to my blog...Not too blog posts are integrated with my twitter account, face book fan page and even my personal customers list on my AWeber account...

I am just looking for really good unique content from quality posters who have a different perspective than myself...I think the diversity in perspective makes for a "sticky" blog..

Like I said I am testing so I don't know how long I will continue this test...

I'll give updates and let everyone know how it goes...

      Thanks
      Gavin

    Hey Gavin,

We exchange blog posts with several different blogs. Are rules for guest posting are:

    1. You must have a PR equal or one number lower than our site. We are a PR of 3 so we only accept guest posts from sites of a PR of 2 or higher.

    2. You must give informative content. I have declined people because they tried to give me a post that was nothing more than advertising. Your readers will appreciate this.

    3. The article must be unique. This is to avoid the duplicate content penalty from Google.

We don't charge for guest posts for 3 main reasons:

    1. Guest posts help build content without you doing any work.

    2. Proper guest posts help build your PR rank by exchanging links.

    3. You have a relationship with someone in your niche that you can contact to become an affiliate when you launch a product.

I personally love exchanging blog posts. It's a great way to start to automate content as well as build relationships with people in your niche. Remember to make the transaction a win/win.

    Hope this helps,

    Brandon

Yes Brandon thanks that does help....

It sounds like you do a "1-for-1" blog post swap...That is an interesting idea... I wander if I can get an automated application developed that helps facilitate this process with approved blog owners that you want to swap posts with... I think Jon Leger was developing something like...

I'm not necessarily talking about blog post swaps per se' although I like that idea as well... I am just talking about accepting guest blog posts in general...although now this kind of gives me an idea to develop a network of blog owners swapping posts among themselves...hmmm...You got my creative juices flowing...

      Thanks again Brandon

      Thanks

        Hey Gavin,

Yeah....I would say that you should take the time to develop relationships with other bloggers in your niche. I mean, what is business all about right?

We have one person that we swap with on a weekly basis. It's pretty cool, my writer just emails him every Tuesday with our strongest blog post of the week.

Wwhen a prospect comes in that is interested in doing a guest post I pass on the information to my writer. We have an excel spreadsheet of all our guest posters to keep it organized.

Yes this is more work but the results are twofold.

        1. You develop a relationship that you can later use in the future.
        2. You remove and worries about spammers, after all you are the one that has to post the article.

Just think, you will spend just as much time moderating as you would building relationships. You have to think of which is better in the long run.

        Cheers!
