This may not be news to everyone, but I heard today that Blogger is ditching FTP. Here what they say ...
"You are receiving this e-mail because one or more of your blogs at Blogger.com are set up to publish via FTP. We recently announced a planned shut-down of FTP support on Blogger Buzz (the official Blogger blog), and wanted to make sure you saw the announcement. "
So that's a bit of a bummer for me because I am using FTP quite extensively.

I was wondering if anyone could think of a way of me continuing to post via FTP to an existing Blogger Blog hosted on its own domain.

By the way, I do understand how insecure FTP is, but I need to find the best way forward for those Blogs

Any thoughts would be welcome.

    Hi Will!

If your blog is hosted on its own domain, I believe you can still use FTP to publish - it would be no different than publishing to your own HTML site via FTP because you connect directly to your host, not Blogger itself.

Unless I'm misunderstanding something here and if so, apologies, I'm still on my first cup of coffee!

    Hi Wendy

It's a Blogger Blog but hosted on its own domain, so I can't FTP to it since I have no way of connecting the post into the Blogger template.

While I'm not overly familiar with Blogger, I've read through the recently published FAQ regarding discontinuing FTP (and sFTP) publishing located here Blogger FTP Info: FAQs

Is this blog the only thing you have on your domain? It looks like you could transfer the domain to their servers and change your account to a Domain account.

Otherwise, is there other blogging software you could see yourself using? You can export from Blogger and import to WordPress or another self-hosted blogging software.

      Hi Chris

That's exactly the problem. You update via email and Blogger FTPs the info up to your domain - at present. But they are dumping FTP.

Sounds like a wonderful opportunity to upgrade to wordpress if you're already on your own domain anyway. I've never done it, but I understand exporting your blogger stuff and importing it into wordpress is very easy.

Then you can go right back to posting via email and NEVER have to worry about it again.

EDIT: I see a couple of people already said what I was saying. Re your theme, there are millions more WordPress themes available than blogger ones, so I'm sure you can easily find something you like. However, if you love your blogger theme, there are several sites with theme designers that specialize in making themes for both platforms as well as cross-designing. I bet you could hire someone to convert it for you very cheaply.

Fair warning: It's possible I'm arguing with you because I have nothing better to do.

Problem is: I have about 20 or so Blogger Blogs all setup to publish to my domain via FTP. So changing to Wordpress - which is what I may well have to do - is not an easy solution.

What I was wondering was if anyone knew how I could publish to a Blogger Blog - using FTP - without going through Blogger to do the FTPing.

It seems I am not the only one in the clag ...

    Hi Will,

Not sure if this will be entirely useful, but this product seems to be getting good reviews. This may bridge the FTP gap?
