Just wondering what you guys do when it comes to new wordpress sites. Do you have a collection of purchased themes/designed themes for general sales pages, or do you get one designed/design one each time, or do you simply grab one of a worpress theme site and stick in your /themes folder and go?

The broader context of my wonderment is, in terms of themes (look and feel) how "out of the box" actually is our preferred website builder?

I always use the Atahualpa theme. It is highly customisable so every site I make is different. I use it for all of my Wordpress sites - my own and clients'. If you want to see a selection, shoot me a PM.

When creating a site on the wordpress platform, i consider that is better to make a custom design for it. I started using the thesis theme and i was happy with it.

I always begin with the Thesis Theme. It's a
premium theme. And it's a super clean frame-
    work to build on.

I've also heard good things about Headway
    Theme, and Frugal Theme.

Once you get to know a theme, you'll be able
to make it do what you need it to do. And it
    won't take you an age.

You can go with a free theme, there are hordes of them available and maybe customize the header image and a few other things. It depends on what is your site about!

Interesting, so like me people seem to get a theme they can learn to manipulate and simply rinse and repeat each time!

Yes, this is one of the biggest reasons that blogging has become so popular. It really popularized templating.

It makes it very easy for anyone to get a site started with the main part, the content. The design is taken care of. Of course it can be customized, either a lot or a little...or, just used right out of the box.

It depends, If I'm looking for a theme for a niche blog I just google "{niche/keyword} wordpress theme" and unless it's a really obscure niche it usually returns a lot of free options to download.

For my personal blog or an authority site I will outsource a custom one to be built.

    Cheers,
    Danny.

I'm having good success with Artisteer. Makes it easy to create really good and complete Wordpress, Blogspot and html themes on your own. Just google Artisteer, you'll find it.

Another vote for Artisteer. I used to spend hours looking for small niche themes, usually without success. Now it's easy to make them. I like to add in my own choice of color palettes, images and backgrounds (not the ones within the software) to make them unique.

I usually go up with a free theme available in wordpress or search them down in google. I usually prefer 3 column themes as I can fit my contents perfectly and they would be eye-catchy as well.

I try to usually keep the theme simple as too many ads or images can annoy my visitors There are lots of excellent themes available free of cost, so you can check them out as well

Thesis Theme without a doubt. That way you can customise it to your liking.

I use artisteer also as I also revamp sites for other businesses so it makes it easy to copy their site.

Well, it depends. Sometimes, I will use one of the existing themes. I have also modified an existing one slightly with colors and image addition.

But very recently I got one developed and it looked so good. So I am now thinking of following this option for some more time.

Depends on what you are going for. If you are going to build mass sites, you can't afford to set up new themes for each one, for the sheer time that goes into it.

But if you are setting up one quality site over a period of time(say a month). I would say, custom themes built on an existing theme that has no glitches. I end up taking a theme that works well, and start tweaking it to my needs and by the time I am done with it. It looks nothing like the original.

Then again, when I go on a site creation spree, I usually have 2-3 themes that i rotate through. I have those tweaked to my personal preferences, like the sidebar widths ,footer text, background images etc. This gives a relatively good look and really fast to set up as well.

    Hi guys

i tend to collect free ones over time because when i want one for a new site i can view them for days because i get so picky as to which one works or looks good.

Then i will be looking for a new one and find one for a future project and think to myself i will save that for later.

With my make money online blog for example im on my 5th design because before this i never found one that i really liked and if i paid for each of them it would have been pretty expensive.

    kind regards

    sam
